This promo deal is only available for new or returning customers. It is not available for existing customers. That means people who have already purchased the annual membership. I paid 149.99.
What HBO max customer service said was that I can apply for a partial refund. I can get refunded what is left of the annual plan. And then I can sign up for the promo. If you want to get the partial refund, call the customer service hotline. The refund takes up to 3-7 business days.
Edit: I just realized it is for "new and returning", I was thinking "new and existing". So it makes sense I wouldn't get the discount in the above case.
