I have the half off deal, and I am honestly having a hard time justifying that. I haven't watched anything on HBO/MAX for a couple of months.

HBO Max doesn't add anything. After I watched all the DC movies and shows there was nothing left for me to watch. They really need to consistently add more content
That's like 15 years of content lol

How are the ads on that particular plan? Intrusive?

The details say "Offers available on hbomax.com and through the following participating subscription providers: Roku, Google Play, Apple and Amazon. Offers valid in the U.S. only." but I can't figure out how to get the discount through Apple. When I go into the App Store and try to change my subscription to yearly, it's just $149. Has anybody had any luck with this?

Edit: I just realized it is for "new and returning", I was thinking "new and existing". So it makes sense I wouldn't get the discount in the above case.
You will have to call to get a partial refund. Like if you signed up for the annual plan about half a year ago, then you get half of that money back. Then once you have gotten the refund/cancelled your plan. You can apply for the promo. It'll take some time to get the refund approved. It's kind of annoying that HBO Max is making you jump through so many hoops. This should be stackable. Like if you get the promo, it just continues the year onto whatever you bought.

I'm trying to wrap up Boardwalk Empire, I still need to watch the last season of Westworld, and I'm missing a few episodes of Barry.

I'm definitely getting my money's worth with HBO Max (surprisingly). I'm looking forward to the the house of the dragon coming soon.

Had a subscription billed thru apple, had to cancel that wait for it to fully end then it allowed me to resubscribe at the new price.

More Dragons! Seriously can't justify this, already getting gouged by Directv Stream. Would be nice if they treated their early adopters better, maybe some UHD, more streams and more Cloud Storage.

Just spoke to HBO max customer service. If anyone wants to call- number is 855-942-6669.

This promo deal is only available for new or returning customers. It is not available for existing customers. That means people who have already purchased the annual membership. I paid 149.99.

What HBO max customer service said was that I can apply for a partial refund. I can get refunded what is left of the annual plan. And then I can sign up for the promo. If you want to get the partial refund, call the customer service hotline. The refund takes up to 3-7 business days.
Thanks. I just did this, repped you!

You don't actually have to call them before cancelling. I cancelled a few weeks ago on my HBOMAX profile page. You only have to call them first if you want to get the promo and retain the account you already have. If you create a new account you will still get the promo, but you have to call to get the pro-rated refund of the cancelled account...and I think it has to be at least a month or more on the cancelled account otherwise they won't credit you. Either way it's a PITA but 7 or 8 bucks is still 7 or 8 bucks, LOL

It was $7.99/month for 1 year with no ads a while back. Now It sucks that they're doing this, you pay to watch contents and ads…

Good offer. Plus, some CapOne cards give $27, one-time cash back. Works out to $6.50/mo. for the first year, on add-free sub.

I have HBO yearly plan (with ads) paid until the end of the year.

From reading the comments, I cannot add a year and stack on top of my current subscription, right?

All the news surrounding discovery ending many DC and HBO projects..makes me wonder what will be there to watch in 6 months. People saying they plan on scrapping Max entirely to release something new. Which could mean stuff on there now might not come over during the shift if they think it'll save 5 bucks.

This is a pretty good deal.

The HBO service isn't as compelling as it was during pandemic as they don't release first run movies there anymore or if they do they're not of any noticeable quality. That being said, the original shows are always top quality!

HBO was great for decades until ATT took over and started to trash it...now it looks like Discovery is saying hold my beer. This is a great price for what HBO was, but for what it is now, and what it looks like it is going to be soon....meh.
Agreed. It's like the new owners have never heard of this thing called HBO. Ads? C'mon. Can you imagine watching
the Sopranos or GOT or Westworld with ads right in the middle? Gross
