Tried this on XBOX. God they dumb it down for a five year old and I still could barely get the plane up in the air. The learning curve is a little outrageous.

Flight Simulator X had a way better tutorial in my opinion. Lessons from a "real flight instructor." It's a bit easier to be interested in learning when you really feel like you're flying a plane rather than being treated like a child by Cortana. The updates are also horrendous (hours every time I want to play), and I feel like I don't actually own the game because I'm forced to log into my (now non-existent) Microsoft account to play. I can't help but to feel like the engine was literally built on top of FSX. I've seen some of the same quirks when playing. Maybe it was? I'm no pilot but the way the plane responds feels a bit more realistic in 2020 than X, but it's not a deal breaker. The challenges are also somewhat fun, but there aren't enough of them. Also you have to buy planes and "enhanced cities" if you want the "full experience." So could definitely turn into one of those "the sticker price does not reflect the total cost of ownership" situations. The graphics in FS2020 are no doubt pretty good, but in my opinion are its only real merit.

There are a number of modes to play in, including new challenges based on the top gun movie that just came out, as well as particularly challenging landings etc which change week to week, and have you competing against other players.

My favorite modes are the bush flights, which require you to navigate from airport to airport using just headings, air speed, a stopwatch, and some descriptions of landmarks (highway intersections, bends in a river, etc). They're a good mix of focus and sightseeing combined, and they provide a larger goal that naturally breaks up into 30-90 minute individual sessions.
