Not only that, there is no standard, government or regulators always turn a blind eye to big corporations like this. They keep renaming their ticket classes blue, mint, tomato, salt and pepper, etc.. When you compare prices on Kayak, etc you can never be sure you are getting a good deal, sometimes until you fill in all your information and right one step before finalizing purchase they reveal all details & charges. Kayak was doing a great job at matching by selecting how many bags you are checking, etc, but even then the airline hits you with "seat fee" like what cruises used to do "guaranteed seat" but it could be next to bathroom or in the middle of 4 seaters..

There has to be standard in naming these ticket classes, just like gasoline, and these prices should be made easily available. Then from there on, if you don't use certain things, like you have 0 carry on, here is a credit for next flight, or like you say 1 carry on but this lady has a carry on, huge backpack and a purse size of luggage, calling it "personal item" should really be stopped at the gate. It's all nonsense.

And then, they delay the flight, or make you wait 2 hours for your luggage, who do I send the bill for that? I am not talking about Jetblue specifically but in general aviation industry.
first checked bag for free isnt free anymore
It feels like every company that used to offer free carry-on's doesn't do it anymore...

They realized the modern consumer only looks at the buy in price, not the total cost. Why do you think cell companies offer low rates then tack on $30 in "fees" which directly to them (not taxes).

I fly fairly often and always look for the best deal, however these 'budget' airlines seem to always cost more than AA or Delta after you paid for your seat assignment (assuming you want to sit near the other people in your party) and even a single checked bag. They are great for cheap one way flights where you only personal item, some force you to check "carry on" bags or the size limit is way smaller than the industry standard.

So add $40 for carry on and some service upgrades regardless of route and/or add $65 per checked piece of luggage. Ouch. Pretty much eliminates them as an option for short haul routs.

They are just full of gimmicks.

With additional this and that; not even a glass of water given in the trip, we'll end up paying pretty close to some regular flight (non-budget)

I never had problem with water or amenities on jet blue, credit where it's due, Jetblue has been great with that.

This is a screw and a half: "Blue Basic fares do not allow a carry-on bag. Any carry-on bag brought to the gate (aside from a personal item that fits under the seat in front of you) will incur a fee and need to be checked. The fee is $65 (if it would be your 1st or 2nd checked bag) or $180 (if it's your 3rd)."

You can thank the legacy airlines for that. They created "basic economy" to try to compete with the low-cost airlines. This is just JetBlue's version.

Remember, the price for checkin or carry on is not $40 or $65. Its double of that until unless you do not fly back with same luggage.
