Every time I see a post like this I have these strong fits of nostalgia. I had some great times in my life playing that game between 2005-2014. However, there were also great reasons why I left and I can't seriously imagine going back.

Still, one thing I will say is even around 2006 I was saying that this was a game that people would still be playing in 20 years. Nobody believed me then but I was correct.

It really is a great game.
Mostly it cuz we were playing with friends. Nowadays i'd rather not having a secondary job after a regular work day.
What you don't feel like grinding for mats and making item level to raid. Then finding a group that will let you raid because you can't always be there at the same time 7 days a week. Wow is basically an unpaid PT job.

Oh hell no Blizz, you are not going to suck me back in. I played for 8 years and I enjoy my life without it now. Very addictive.

I cancelled my subscription long long ago, after Burning Crusade I think. Looks like you might need to have an active sub to claim this?

Zero guilds raid 7 days a week, most of them raid 2-3 days a week

did they take away the ability to buy game time tokens with gold on the Auction House? I haven't loaded up WoW in quite some time, but that was a thing the last time I played and it was great because you could theoretically make enough gold to buy a token and you play for free.
You can still buy tokens https://us.shop.battle.net/en-us/...en?p=10830

I'm also a past player , and there's a lot to be jaded about WoW because of the crap they changed. But I won't be too negative about it.

The monthly price still gives you a massive amount of entertainment. Definitely worth it *if* you find it fun. Unfortunately, I don't anymore. Another plus is you get to experience Wrath for free (along with sub) when it starts up in a few weeks. If I could retire for a year, I'd probably just no life Wrath..

Still this deal is pretty good, although they always give you the prev expac for free after the new one releases anyway. The boost is nice, but getting to level 50 doesn't take that long (20 hrs or so).

Good post though, and I claimed the item (and the freebie mog from above — thank you for that Smilie )

The lore (although laughable in some parts) is still some of the best fantasy stuff ever created. For that at least it still holds true.

Played Beta through end of first expansion (same as I did in Everquest). Both times too many friends quit to make it worth continuing. Tried it again years later for a couple of days and realized my MMO days were over.

I played from launch till the start of shadowlands. The game slowly started dying for me when all the social aspects changed. Like social media there is too much of a good thing. server merges and lfg/lfr made everything trivial and impersonal. It was nice while it lasted but its a huge time sink. There are so many more productive things to do with your time.

Same as you, but I logged in an hour ago or so and I had a free shadowlands gift

I hope WoW never dies. If it's still around in 60-70 years and I wind up in a nursing home, I'm gonna be posted up in an adjustable bed and play all day on an IV drip of morphine and bawls listening to 2000s techno

Lots of former addicts in this thread. I'll warn you now: you can never go back. Whether you play the latest expansion or Classic WoW/TBC/Wrath, it will never be the same again.

If you're itching for that feeling of 10-15 years ago, I suggest playing a new game and getting hooked on it instead. If you haven't played it, Guild Wars 2 is on Steam, the base game is free and there's no subscription.

Final Fantasy 14 has a subscription model, but it's arguably the best MMO to release since…well, GW2 and WoW. It has a slow start, but once you hit the mid-game it really begins to cook.

Other than that, it's kind of a crapshoot. Star Wars The Old Republic is still around and does story telling very well (this is pre-Disney SW, thank god). I hear Fallout 76 is improved. If multiplayer isn't your bag anymore, No Man's Sky offers great feeling of exploration.
You can never go back, because what you miss is freedom, friendship, memories not the actual game

This could easily translate to a killer Tinder Profile.
