I hate buying electronics from Amazon if I have a choice. I often seem to get items that look be open box rather than new.

Not worth it for $500 difference. Just buy ext TB4 SSD or use SD card for storing pics and vids.

Dumb argument. Will your Mac cease to work if it's not updated to the newest software?. Even my 2017 iMac is updated to the newest macOS, Ventura. Even older ones that are not, they are still perfectly usable and will get 2-3 years of security patches, per apple.

Even if it's not sold by Amazon, you get 5% on their CC.

Also Costco and Best Buy, which I would trust with warranties before Amazon.

Moving from a PC to the M1 pro chip has been eye opening and mind blowing. It's such a solid machine. However, I would not buy electronics through Amazon, as the past 3 times I have they were obviously returns (fingerprints over everything), and broken screens. Amazon's response always is, "we'll you can return it", but in my opinion that's not good enough. There should be confidence that when buying new through a store: it's actually new. Solid laptop, solid performance, but I wouldn't buy through Amazon...even at this price.

They just matched Best Buy's price, so you can buy from there instead.

The more money you spend at Best Buy the longer your return period is. I think buying this computer alone would puts you into 30 days. Up to 45 is possible. At least till they kill my best buy rewards soon.

There's no reason a mid-range to high-end computer shouldn't be compatible with the newest operating systems 8 years minimum. Planned obsolescence at its finest. Not to mention all the e-waste they're creating.
When you change the chip architecture your OS is running on, that strikes me as a pretty good reason.

It's like complaining your sky trolleys are incompatible with wheel-based roads.

Is anyone else sickened by the short software lifespan of computers these days? This is a $1600 computer that's already a year old, so you'll be lucky to get 4 more years of updates. All pre-2017 computers from both Apple and Microsoft are incompatible with the newest os versions. That's 5 years or less on some models. Don't know what you're talking about. I'm getting the latest macOS on my Early-2015 MacBook Pro. >7 years old...
