I also saw some youtuber did a comparison of multiple current microsd brands and lexar came out last.
Found the video: https://youtu.be/eNX4SFMftEY

Not sure if this one is a new one that isn't subject to what people are talking about.

Don't get me wrong, it will work fine but it's slower vs the SanDisk or Samsung evo select cards. Game loads are fast because they are reads. Looks like this card is slower on writes. The issue with overheating leading to throttling and it being thicker is a bit of a concern.

I need one but I'm on the fence.
Tried this Lexar 1TB in my steam deck today playing Doom 2016 and it didn't go so well. Mission took much longer to load, kept locking up at checkpoints, felt a few FPS drops, eventually the game just crashed to homescreen. Swapped my TEAMGROUP GO 512GB back in and played through the same mission with really no issues (just one minor lockup for few seconds) and mission load times were quicker too. I guess I had to see it for myself at this price point, going to be returning this card, unfortunately.
Would be nice for the steam deck but lots of bad reviews of lexar cards's performance on steamdeck.

Perhaps this is a new one and it's better? Can someone chime in?

Would love to get this 1tb.

@zerosvn Curious Where did you read the bad reviews? Quickly glanced at Amazon reviews and reddit and didn't see anything alarming, so I'm curious. FYI - I just ordered this for my steam deck.

Appreciate you sharing the links. Looks like a mixed bag, most reporting that write speeds are average and sometimes inconsistent. Which I'm really fine with as long as the read speeds are good. Happy to report back after a few days of use, this seemed like too good of a deal for me to just pass up.

Yup, it is, hence I'm on the fence.

I believe the performance is on par with other cards but it overheats so it throttles, leading to intermittent drops in write speed.

Im using a Samsung evo 256gb microsd and it's getting 30MB/s so I'm OK, but would love to upgrade to 1tb if this works out.

You're selection should be based on what purpose you have for using it in a Steam Deck. If it's just for emulation it will work fine. If your planning on installing Windows on it or using it to expand your existing Steam game storage you need to go with a card that can handle more iops. Like a Sandisk Extreme U3 A2 which has better performance than the Lexar. I have two decks in the house and have each of these cards.

I know this isn't a technical forum, but has anyone tried to 'heatsink' a mSD card?
If there's Z-height available, some aluminum tape or a small snippet of copper-graphene/synthetic graphite 'nvme heatspreader' sheet-material might work.

I came to this Slickdeal because I was searching for a reasonably priced 1TB card, for my Deck. Thermal performance problems and early failures on memory cards seem to be common to the Steam Deck, regardless of brand.

I just received my Lexar 1tb play and it's a very tight fit, there's no way you would be able to fit anything else, unless you opened up the steam deck and attached a heatspreader on top of the SD card slot? Not a bad idea. Although it's a tight fit, I'm not having any issues with the SD card getting stuck in the slot, like a lot of people mentioned. Perhaps this is an updated version.

Thanks for the input.
The reports of 'extra thickness' seemed credible, you confirmed it.
BTW MicroSD's physical 'spec' is 1.0mm thickness.
To be fair, I've had at least 2 phones where 'a lil tight' fitting mSD card would've been preferred...

I've got this for the steam deck and it's only a bit slower than the 512 ssd that it came with. Been using it for a month now and no issues. I recall seeing bad video review on it but I think he just had a faulty unit.

Should note I picked it up in June. I've played Elden Ring and tons of indie games on it.

FWIW, the Steam Deck can do wonky sd card formats and cause terrible write performance. I suggest anyone using a large SD card to do the ext4 format via Desktop Mode - KDE Partition Manager. Made a world of difference on my 512GB card.

I bought this for my steam deck. "Lexar trash" posts sound troll and video about lexar being bad was testing an A1 card against A2 cards.
