These are budget tools on sale for less than the price of a good hatchet. Normally I only consider these kinds of sets on a lark after Christmas when Walmart heavily discounts whatever they have left. But for the money you could do a lot worse. I wouldn't buy this if my life regularly depended on my gear, but for most of us on a camping trip or to keep in the back of the car for emergencies, I'd rather have this $20 set than nothing. And it'd make a nice gift for a kid or someone who needs basic tools for the outdoors.
But, remember you will be paying your state sales taxes, a $6.99 fee if your order is under $35 and you don't pay for Walmart+, and whatever shipping you choose. That drives the price to $28.91 for me before even deciding what shipping I want. Walmart charging both shipping and quietly sneaking in a service charge for a sub-$35 order is kinda double-dipping, IMHO. I'll never pay it, and that alone kills this deal for me.
But if I find it on the clearance shelf for $15 after Christmas...
Is there a common way people buy a hatchet without paying sales taxes?
No, but a lot of folks remember not too long ago many online retailers not collecting sales tax, and believe it or not some are still salty about it. Not me, I support the legislation that forced online retailers to collect all sales tax just like B&M retailers have always had to. But, I mentioned it because the final price in the deal didn't account for Walmart's service fee on orders under $35, sales tax or shipping cost.
When I post a deal I like to add in "+tax," especially since many of the deals I post are firearms, knives or other items where the online retailers for many years didn't collect taxes unless you lived in the state where their business was located.
