The bestselling author of The Martian returns with an irresistible new near-future thriller—a heist story set on the moon.

Jasmine Bashara never signed up to be a hero. She just wanted to get rich.

Not crazy, eccentric-billionaire rich, like many of the visitors to her hometown of Artemis, humanity's first and only lunar colony. Just rich enough to move out of her coffin-sized apartment and eat something better than flavored algae. Rich enough to pay off a debt she's owed for a long time.

So when a chance at a huge score finally comes her way, Jazz can't say no. Sure, it requires her to graduate from small-time smuggler to full-on criminal mastermind. And it calls for a particular combination of cunning, technical skills, and large explosions—not to mention sheer brazen swagger. But Jazz has never run into a challenge her intellect can't handle, and she figures she's got the 'swagger' part down.

The trouble is, engineering the perfect crime is just the start of Jazz's problems. Because her little heist is about to land her in the middle of a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself.

Trapped between competing forces, pursued by a killer and the law alike, even Jazz has to admit she's in way over her head. She'll have to hatch a truly spectacular scheme to have a chance at staying alive and saving her city.

Jazz is no hero, but she is a very good criminal.

That'll have to do.

Propelled by its heroine's wisecracking voice, set in a city that's at once stunningly imagined and intimately familiar, and brimming over with clever problem-solving and heist-y fun, Artemis is another irresistible brew of science, suspense, and humor from #1 bestselling author Andy Weir.

Many readers who devoured The Martian and loved that book seemed not to care as much for Artemis. I read both and very much enjoyed both for different reasons. The Martian is a survival-at-all costs thriller, Artemis is a slacker-gets-caught-up-in-heist-and-politics in a lunar colony setting. The descriptions of everyday life and tourism, to include the restrictions that come with living, working and visiting the lunar city/colony of Artemis are fascinating...it's the kind of narrative that Andy Weir excels at. I'd recommend Artemis at full price...at this discounted price, GO FOR IT.
I enjoyed Weir's Project Hail Mary more than The Martian. Artemus was my least favorite out of the three. I can never get into moon based stories.
Does this Artemis also have trouble taking off?

I love the 3 Sci-Fi books he has released and I really enjoyed this one. People don't seem to enjoy this one as much, but loved it.

It depends. I really loved listening to it as an audiobook. I love the the other books Andy Wier has put out. This one wasn't as enjoyed by his fans though. Worth a shot for $3.

agree on the first two books. haven't read this one - is it still worth reading even if it's not on par with the others?

I very much enjoyed Hail Mary. Great mystery in space movie kind of thing with problem solving. I have been reading Artemus for nearly 2 months and I am struggling to care to finish. I keep putting it down for a couple of weeks and then trying again to just put it down for a few weeks. I think the story and idea could be good, but the way he writes the main character annoys me a lot. She talks like my 6 year old talks sometimes. The whole "What...I like [insert thing]" he does all the f'n time. I think at one point literally in two pages she used that exact phrase, like "I should be running to hide but I am going to stop and get a moon bar.....WHAT....I like moon bars." followed quickly by something like "Trond had a lot of money so he collected dog figurines and had them in a display case. I stopped like I always do to look at them.....WHAT...I like dog figurines." These are examples not quotes, but that shit started annoying me so very much it started making me judge the entire character. I felt maybe he does a better job writing male characters than he does female.

Add audible audio book format for another ~8 bucks... Worth having both formats.

Project Hail Mary was my first from Weir, so I immediately got Artemus after finishing PHM. It lost my interest immediately.
Project Hail Mary audiobook especially, was one of the best things I've ever read/listened to. The narration was just so good, I wish it never ended.
I really loved reading Project Hail Mary. I'm curious why is the audiobook particularly so great?

The "music", can't really say more without spoiling things, but not actual music.

it's tricky to put into words but it is really well told by Ray Porter (Boboverse series), plus it has some cool "voice enhancements" that improve the immersion.
