This is never not on sale, no deal, "regular" price is $50. Boss bought one for work, it's not good. Same week we replaced it with a hakko.

It was recently available, for two weeks, for $39.59. It would be nifty if posters made some small effort to determine if their deal is slick.

The combo F/C display is pointless. Every soldering spec is in degrees C. Even if you think in Fahrenheit for weather and cooking, you use Celsius for something like this.

What you really want is a dual display showing the set point and the actual tip temperature. This is a hint that the temperature display is an off-the-shelf module and the knob is connected to an analog controller. Probably one that is not especially good.

I'll skip the discussion about PID controllers for soldering. It's better to use an adaptive digital controller that addresses how soldering irons are used in real life. It can track previous usage, detect when it is being used, and provides a long full power pulse to bring the tip back up to the target temperature.

If you serious about electronics get a soldering iron that uses tips with a heating element build in like the popular T12 for example. This is not that.
