The 10 mm doesn't interchange. It's larger than a 3/8 and smaller than the 7/16.

10mm bolts are a very very common size so when engineers are designing products and it doesn't really matter which fastener to use somewhere, they'll usually make it 10mm because those are cheapest to order because they are so ubiquitous.
so because they you end up seeing so many 10mm bolts on a day to day basis, you use that socket a lot. And because you use that socket all the time, you are more likely to misplace it and realize when you can't find it. So they always feel like they are missing….
