The Appl trade in offers are ridicules right now. It'll probably get better a few months down the road. It's best to ignore these so called offers for now,

Best Buy or Costco won't come close to giving me $800 for my XS Max, so this is a great deal IMO. As for the bill credits and the phone being locked, I don't see that as a deal breaker. We're never leaving T-Mobile and I can always give my old phone to my mom if needed.
I can understand the complaints for those with newer phones, but you're not getting $1k for those in the open market.
