A 17" laptop that isn't FHD display. A deal breaker for most.

at $350 it fits a certain niche. for example my mom would love this laptop. id swap that HDD drive for an additional $30-50 for an SSD though

It's hard to use windows at less than 1080p.

Pretty tight niche when you can get this one for $19.01 more. What do you get for less than $20?

17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) 16:9, 250-nits, 45% NTSC, Matte, IPS Display
Intel Core i5-1155G7 (up to 4.5 GHz, 8 MB L3 cache, 4 cores, 8 threads) 11th gen vs. 10th gen
Intel Iris Xe Graphics (86 EUs) vs Intel HD Graphics 5000
64GB max ram vs 32G max ram
Backlit keyboard vs. no backlight
2 yr warranty vs. 1 yr warranty.

I suppose the Asus could make sense if you don't like your mother or she abused you or something. A lot of manufacturers got caught with older parts when they had to shut down their assembly lines for a certain unnamed virus of unknown origin. Competition is fierce in this segment right now because they're blowing out their low end parts from two years ago.

Yes, the linked deal is a refurb but there are other deals on NEW HP laptops for not a lot more. There's A LOT of evidence that refurb in this case means, "HP never meant to sell this model to the public so you don't get retail packaging and documentation for your new computer", instead of, "Returned to HP after another user bought it and broke it then recycled".

I can only speak for my experience but I will NEVER purchase an HP laptop again, ever. I have owned 3 over the years. All 3 have failed at one point or another.
