Because of that, I started buying 10-packs of IIID Max filament at $12 per roll shipped. Fortunately, they come with reusable spools(!), however, I can't find any filament to use with them that doesn't cost MORE than I paid for the spool in the first place...
Realistically, programs depend on printer type. Cura is great for filament printers with Octoprint to facilitate actual printing.
Models, thingiverse and printables (or, finding stuff via yeggi) are both good. People will rip thingiverse due to lack of investment and issues, but it is still where people put the most new things.
For designing your own stuff, TinkerCad is prob. the most straightforward.
Now, for what to print? Depends on interests - I've made miniatures, divides/holders for board games, a stand for a light saber, a ton of 3d printer improvements (do this first), a gutter filter, and just tons of other stuff.

That said, I personally like Overtures approach with cardboard spools (including the handy filament estimates on them)

Depending on your S&S ship date I guess. I actually had this same thought but realized it wouldn't give me much time and the sale is really only 76 cents off getting it on Saturday.
(It's a joke)
Any recommended programs to run this?
Tia!
