I bought the one from HD, because it met my needs, but it isn't identical. It's a lighter cord, single outlet... It was still a good deal, but if you need something heavier, this is a good deal.

Just a heads up you're supposed to fully uncoil this before using it, or else the coiled wire will overheat. I've been tempted by these, but always figured unravelling all 75 feet for many tasks would be more trouble than it's worth.

It depends what you're powering. If you're running a 20A a/c unit constantly, then yes uncoiling it is a good idea. But for a power tool that you're using in short bursts that sounds completely unnecessary.

I bought a 50' 15 amp reel from Woot back in January from a deal posted here.

They sent me a completely different cord reel that was only rated for 13 amps. They offered $10 off for me to keep it but I needed the 15 amp so I sent it back. They were NOT easy to work with for returns. Make sure you really look this over if you get it.

Hmmmm, I just picked up the 100' southwire 12awg deal but this looks great too. More convenient to store/use as well.

That's true for any extension cord.

To add to this, the cord will heat up based on the amps pulled through it. A decent sized air compressor, for instance, would use up all of the amps this cord is rated for. Be mindful about how much stuff you have plugged into your extension chords. I had one completely self destruct one time because I had my air compressor connected to it pulling 15amps and the cords was a "medium duty" capable of only 10amps. Never gave much thought to it prior, but after almost burning down my house I invested in better extension cords for my larger equipment.

A 20 amp A/C is going to be above what this cord should be used for even uncoiled. I wouldn't run a typical power tool off of this without uncoiling, they can draw up to 15 amps depending on the tool.

some of these when giving a quick tug wil coil back up so at least half the hassle is eliminated

12/3 is rated up to 20 amps. This cord reel has a 15 amp breaker built in. If unit functions as designed, breaker should pop if any overload issues are encountered. That said, things don't always function as advertised.

Woot is very hit or miss. Ive had 2 or 3 times where the item comes 3 months later and is used. Ive also had them never send the item and when I complain they cancel the order as out of stock. This is all after amazon bought them.

Just received my order today. The outer portion of the reel is definitely metal, but the inner portion that the cord wraps around is plastic. Seems like a decent setup, but I did use it with my table saw to rip a 1x4 and had issues. Cord was fully unrolled and the 15 amp breaker on side of reel popped when I was about 1/2 way through the cut. I use this same saw often on job sites with 100' 12/3 cords and outlets with 15amp breakers and it's never popped a breaker before. So, either this is not a true 15amp breaker, or this is not really 12/3 or maybe it's a weak breaker. Not sure what the difference is, but there is something going on.
