My Lenovo smart clock essential doesnt light up parts of the time numbers anymore and makes it impossible to read the time.

I do not know if this is a wide spread issue

IMO get the lenovo smart clock essential instead. Has a much nicer look, is less bright and is half the price. Unless you really want a "smart" clock with a screen, I think it's way better.

Is this a good alarm clock for sleeping / waking up to? does it get dim enough at night to check the time when all the lights are off without blinding you?

The nest hub is a better clock for the same price. The sunrise wake up feature is killer.

I have the 1st gen without the charger, and it's been a great alarm clock. It's not blinding at night and has the sunrise wakeup. I also like that I can toggle my bedside lamps (smart bulbs) on and off from the screen.

Yes it's very widespread, I have had 2 clocks that had same issue. Garbage quality screen

I have two and neither have this issue, but it sounds like others are reporting the same problem as you.

I have the Lenovo Smart Clock 1and I bought the Smart Clock 2 holiday bundle at Walmart during Christmas. It works great. I believe there is ambient lighting, so it changes brightness depending on the lighting situations in the room. Overall, it's pretty good. The holiday bundle I purchased did not come with the wireless charging. I'd almost want to get another one for the wireless charging.

That being said, I do wonder if you're better off getting the Google Nest Hub. I keep seeing them on sale pretty often.
