FYI - those new to security cameras .. if you need good low light performance look for cameras that have larger sensors ( in general .. of course there's more nuance to this, but that is a good rule .. )

So far all the Reolink cameras I have seen use more affordable and smaller sensors and do not do well in low light conditions

Rlc-822a only records audio. You are better off buying the 8ch nvr and cameras to fit your needs. I recently sold my 2 nest outdoor iq cameras that were 5 years old for more than I paid for them and bought the reolink.

Very happy with the quality and ease of setup. I would recommend getting one of the 2 way audio cameras with color night vision, the color night vision acts like a flood light (you can turn it off completely, auto, or to come on per a schedule you can setup.), great for areas of your house that are dark, they are very bright...

Very customizable, there's even a buzzer that you can setup to make noise from the dvr when it detects a person (ie ours is setup to make an audible noise when someone is near the front yard).

I have the 2tb dvr with 2 RLC-811A cameras and 1 duo2 180 degree camera, currently get 10 days of 24/7 recording, it is expandable to 6tb internal and 6 tb external via esata. I did have a problem with the duo2 camera spotlights not coming on when person was detected, reolink support responded same day with new firmware update to fix the problem.

Quality is great, can read license plates in daytime 30' away on angle while cars moving 30mph.

How do you install this? Is it hard? Thanks
Hi @berukz

Depends on your home.

one story homes with attics you can access are not too hard imho ..

still the cabling job does take some time and effort.

All things considered, if you have an attached garage, that often makes a great place to start setting on a nice wired IP PoE setup ..

you can start with putting 2 cameras, one on each side of the garage door ...

Remember how well you install IP PoE cameras makes a big difference on longevity ..

the pictures from Reolink show the example install of the camera shows of the cable coming down into the camera base .. this is not good, as water will travel down the cable and into the camera .. sometimes water does seep into the camera itself.

Drip-loop - this is why you want to install the camera in a way to form a drip loop if the cable is exposed.

Also remember a drop or 2 of di-electric gel in the RJ45 boot to keep moister out as much as possible and to use silicone stretch plumbers tape or coax seal around the RJ45 connection once you've connected up your camera. Many at ipcamtalk like to add a electrical tape wrap around that then ..

Always test your planned installation positions before drilling holes for the cable run ..

Always want a PoE camera, but always stop choosing due to installation. Two stories house with crazy large attic and high roof is big problem.

Hi DrTamo

Completely understand ..

If you have an attached garage, you can fairly easily use that for a place to run 2-4 cameras.

I'd start with 2 cameras .. one on each side of the top of the garage door facing into each over to cover your driveway.

If you park on the street, or want to cover the street ( recommended ), I would add more more cameras ( can be next to the original 2 ) which have tighter FOV ( perhaps a varifocal model or a 6mm )

That would be 4 cameras and get you a great start for coverage without too much hard work.

Hi TruongKy

What is the sensor size in the cameras?

hint; for a 8MP I prefer 1/1.8" or large sensor .. 1/1.2" is even better ..
