The new LCD display looks really amazing, but it almost looks...TOO good. Like it doesn't belong on the machine. It's a retro arcade machine, with a fancy $350 LCD panel on top? I prefer the LED pixel look of the cheaper one TBH (I am saying this just going by what I've seen in videos - YouTubers have said they prefer the new LCD). The LED is just really impressive to see in action...I always think "how do they DO that???" Especially when some of the graphics animate on the LED's. It's super cool. Yeah, an LCD is crisper and can show way more graphics, but we see LCD screens all the time. An LED is UNIQUE.
I would guess it's personal preference honestly. I will say, the new LCD shows more "real" marquees, like the actual arcade cabinets vs just a logo with the cheaper LED version. You should look up PDubs Arcade Loft on Youtube for reviews of both.

and have a locked set of playable games.
Why don't you just buy or acquire the games and controls you want, get a FULL-size cabinet broken down game for free or make some cash hauling it out of a basement.
There are youtubes and sites all over to use any computer from the last 10 + years, or Rasnberry Pi, and you can download a ready-made arcade system for free on Linux.
If you can swap joysticks, you can recycle an arcade cabinet.

I know there is a market for retro yuppies obviously.
Trust me, a 40-year-old cabinet, repaired with bondo and a paint brush, will blow this ouuta the water, for probably less money, and customizable games and controls to boot.
Anyone else who purchased this receive extra codes yet or have more info on this? I'll update when I have more info for those wondering.
So far, after loading up CoinOPSX and tinkering with it a bit, I'm really loving the unit. The height is actually perfect for my family and the screen is better than I expected it to be. If it includes download codes for 50 pinball games (hell, even if it's just a few quality pinball tables) then that's the icing on the cake for this unit at this total price.
And to the person above that suggested a 40-year-old cabinet repaired with bondo and paint would blow this out of the water: I'm a 40-year-old repaired with bondo and paint, and I don't have the time to scavenge for parts to build a unit that would end up providing me with essentially the same experience at the end of the day.

I love this response, I see both sides to be completely honest. It's a great cab for the price and the fact that you don't really need to do much.
For somebody that is determined to have the best, this isn't going to scratch that itch. The difference between 1/2" MDF to 3/4" is huge, and I'm not even sure this is 1/2".
It's not bad at all, but it's not great either. It is what it is. If you value your time AND money this is the best option. If you value your money and want the best, you can make a better cab for less. If you value your time and money is no issue, you can also buy a better kit.
This is a sweet spot. I'm glad you are enjoying it
The special bonus it mentions looks like 2 free months of arcadenet.
Edit: oh looks like this was linked earlier. never mind.

I'm a fan of all these arcade machines, but never owned one of these before due to the cost and space it takes up.. Instead, I own a bunch of Gamer Pros hooked up to 32", 48", and 42" monitors, but really think this is a Great budget Arcade machine despite the smaller 24" screen.
Especially if you are willing to mod it, do more with it than just out of the box, like adding coinopsx....or.... connect it to PC or other games eg. superconsolex, rasberrypi via HDMI, and controllers with bluetooth or optionally switch out the controller with a Gamer Pro which has pinball buttons(as mentioned in this video>>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF0sm-7Y_uQ) , BitPixel marque addition, play pinball, mod the controllers if they aren't good enough to your liking, with stronger springs, bat tops, or better buttons....just having the potential to do more tinkering makes it worth while.

And it's like 1/8" fiberboard over a frame for some of the base and 1/2" MDF for the rest. Despite that, it's actually quite solid and looks good. I think the collection of title art on the front could look better, but it's definitely way nicer than I was expecting.

All AtGames products only come tihe a 90 day warranty which seems very short to me for a product at this price point!
I really like the form factor of the ALU: controls (spinners are a nice add over the Tankstick), Bit Pixel, and overall size and nice look (no decals on mine).
But...
The Tankstick with MAME/Launchbox is just a better setup software-wise.
I've thought for a while about just converting the ALU to a MAME setup, but get bogged down by the process pretty easily.
With your recommended driver board and encoder, are you simply plugging the pc into the HDMI and USB on the top control panel and using the existing ALU controls? Have you run across a good tutorial?
Thanks!
As for the 300 vs 350 games? I'm not entirely sure, but here's what happened when I inquired (I don't know if these results should be expected for everyone or reproducible):
I had no idea what to expect from this "Deluxe" unit, just that I was expecting pinball buttons and someone said it should include 50 pinball games (so it would be the stock 300+50 pinball games - pretty good deal). However, what the extra stuff would be wasn't listed anywhere. I received the unit on a Friday, the pinball buttons on a Saturday, registered the unit with AtGames in case that was how I get the extra games, don't find the extra 50 games anywhere, so I sent AtGames customer service a polite message just asking what I should be expecting and what the missing games are (if any) since Kohl's doesn't have a very complete description. They got back to me on Wednesday and said that I should be receiving some extra game codes from Kohl's probably via email (and that AtGames CS contacted Kohl's about the issue) and if I don't receive them by the end of business week (today) then I should contact AtGames again. This afternoon rolls around, and I don't have anything, so I reply to them and let them know I still don't have anything and if I should contact Kohl's as well. I'm polite and loving the unit, and I just want to know what should have been included with it. If I got just a few pinball games with it, I'd be happy.
Less than 30 minutes later, I get an email with: platinum status for AtGames (1 year warranty+$100 pinball game credit+extras), 1 month of standard ArcadeNet membership, and codes for a total of 139 pinball games (like all the Gottlieb, Taito, and Zaccharia packs). I then get a follow-up email from CS saying that I should now have the codes.
So was that was I supposed to get? Did AtGames send it to me? Did Kohl's send it? Did AtGames CS just send me all that for my troubles when it was supposed to be much less? I have no idea, but I'm not complaining, and I still don't know precisely what was supposed to be in these Deluxe units from Kohl's. I just know that I'm even happier now with my purchase and it was worth the wait and contact with CS to get the pinball games.
They had me do software updates . Did NOT fix broken keys, bro. Waiting for the next step--hopefully sending me a new control panel. grrr
EDIT. Loose plugs. I got it figured out, got some concessions and am happy.
