This 2nd gen thinkpads have a trackpoint issue that lenovo hadn't fully resolved. It took them over 1.5yr to put out a half ass solution even though the trackpoint problem impacted most of the thinkpad lineup - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Thin...-p/5062438
Lenovo seems set on destroying Thinkpad quality and brand, preferring to do BS products like the "Z" series and tablets.
Buying a machine with 8gb soldered ram is also silly...
Another spectacular laptop deal crushed by not having a minimum 16gb of RAM. I would happily pay the cost difference; it is probably only $30 or $40 per unit. Absurd.

This can be a great Linux device, Ubuntu for example runs very light on memory ram. even my T430 3rd gen runs very snappy, current Zen cpu will work wonders for sure.
Is it possible to use USB memory stick to improve the ram performance on this machine?
Yes, I can confirm that swapping to your USB memory stick is faster than swapping to the NVME drive. I can also confirm that I was able to download an additional 8 TB of RAM, so the 8 GB is no longer a problem.

Yeah. I feel like 16gb of RAM should be the minimum.
Someone was able to desolder the ram. Check the other thread.
