Does it go that low?! It's killer value.
Still holding the line to pick one up for a budget PC build.

yeah, I'm planning an AMD 5600G with 16GB RAM (3200 overclocked to 3600) and 1TB SSD with a basic 450 board. Can build it with all new parts, for around $450. Will be slower than the intel build, but don't expect to be CPU limited and its cheaper. No discrete GPU initially, 5600G can do 1.7 tflops and it's a family PC.
Should be about as powerful as a M1 MBA ($1800 for the same specs) and 2/3 the power of my M1 Pro MBP. I will add a GPU when I see the perfect deal.

5800x under $200 would be killer. Maybe $25 in the total system cost may not be worth waiting 2.5 months. It's a new build. Going from 0 to 1. If it was an upgrade and I was going from .8 to 1, def would wait.

The logical part in me thinks future upgradability with Intel is a smart move for a budget PC, while the frugal part of me sees all the power I can get now for cheap with AMD by sacraficing future upgradability.

Yes, should not be an issue at all. This is quite a powerful 6 core APU. I replaced my 3700X + NVidia 1660 with just the 5600G and have been super happy with it so far. My computer was randomly rebooting with the 3700X and the video card. Has been rock solid since I switched to the 5600G.
