I tried Finish powder twice over the last few years when I couldn't find Cascade powder. It's terrible, never again. If you use too much of it glassware becomes opaque, if you use to little it doesn't get things clean.

Maybe it works better with other dishwasher brands. I have an 18 inch Bosch dishwasher. Pods, capsules, and other premeasured detergents aren't an option because it doesn't need as much as a larger dishwasher.

I use Cascade powder in the cup and put about 1/8 teaspoon of citric acid in the bottom of the machine to deal with hard water. Citric acid is a miracle for hard water in appliances, faucets, showerheads, and toilets.

Have been using a Kitchen Aid dishwasher for 30 years (on my 3rd). I always use the powder. Target, Meijer and Kroger brands work fine for me too. I really think you just have to have a good dishwasher and not use too much detergent. The line on my soap dispenser is about halfway down, so you have to be careful not to put too much in. I always put it on normal cycle, turn off all drying, and turn on sani rinse which gives you a super hot rinse. That gets everything super clean and leaves stuff pretty DRY too...yes without the drying cycle. (Except for plastic. I avoid plastic like the plague because it just doesn't dry.)

So IMO this is a good price for this product, but you can get the generics for a little less.

Powder is awesome if it wasn't for the box and dispenser. The sound/feeling of opening the spout with your finger and feeling the metal against cardboard… ugh I can feel it now.

And when you get past halfway and the powder has started to clump without any real way to deal with it other than slicing open the box and never being able to use the spout again… hey that might solve problem one.

What's the issue with too much detergent a few mentioned above? It's not more detergent the cleaner?

No because there isn't enough water to rinse off the soap so some gets left behind as residue
