About this Item:
- Noise cancelling wireless headphones – The perfect balance of quiet, comfort, and sound. Bose uses tiny mics to measure, compare, and react to outside noise, cancelling it with opposite signals.
- High-fidelity audio – The TriPort acoustic architecture offers depth and fullness. Volume-optimized Active EQ maintains balanced performance at any volume, so bass stays consistent when turned down and the music remains clear when turned up.
- Quiet and Aware Modes – Choose Quiet Mode for full noise cancelling, or Aware Mode to bring the outside into the around ear headphones and hear your environment and your music at the same time.
- Personalize your audio. Adjustable EQ allows you to set the bass, mid-range, and treble levels to your personal preferences or select one of several preset options.
- Up to 24 hours battery life – Enjoy 24 hours of battery life from a single charge. A quick 15-minute charge offers 3 hours when you're on the go, or plug in the included audio cable to listen for even longer in wired mode.
- Personalize your audio. Adjustable EQ allows you to set the bass, mid-range, and treble levels to your personal preferences or select one of several preset options.

Xm4. Bose has some NC model line which are a bit newer than these, but different form factor that some people don't like as much

These are number 2 in Bose's lineup. But it's a very close second.
Their flagship headphone is the 700. It offers a sleeker, more modern design, and a more neutral sound profile. These have a more accented sound curve, especially up high, which some prefer and some don't, and a bulkier, plastickier body that doesn't look or feel as premium, but folds flatter and many find more comfortable. Both offer all the same features.
All said, the 700 may be slightly better in sound quality and build material. But I doubt its $100+ better for most people. As always, depends on individual budget and priorities.

The Sony XM5 is also very different than this one, especially when it comes to sound signature. And the price you're talking about with the XM5 is for a refurbished version.
FWIW, I actually own both, as I'm a reviewer for his kind of thing.
At $250, this is a pretty solid deal for this model, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid pair of general use headphones. (Unless you have tinnitus and are bothered by ANC. In that case, don't get this one because you only have 2 modes: ANC or Aware. No "all off" option.)

Between the two, I like the QC45 better. The NC700 is 2-3 years old at this point, though, and considering the QC Earbuds 2 just got an update, I'd expect the NC700 to get an update sometime within the next year.
