990 Pro was announced about 3 weeks ago. Releases in October.
<50% increased power efficiency = lower thermals
"Built on a low-power architecture, Samsung's newly designed controller dramatically improves the SSD's power efficiency by up to 50% compared to the 980 PRO. Additionally, the 990 PRO employs a nickel coating on the controller and a heat spreader label on the drive for reliable thermal management. Samsung's Dynamic Thermal Guard technology further ensures that the drive's temperature stays in the optimal range."
That said, $100 for this drive is a good price.
Thanks OP.
I ordered one. Keep in mind that Sept Reward would not be applied to this.

Refurb 1TB is also $100 at Best Buy, for those that don't want to mess with getting Gamestop Pro membership, and don't mind a "refurb" AKA returned drive. LINK

I bought this drive ~6 months ago and paid 30% more. I would highly recommend it, though as others have said, the 990 is coming soon and will outperform this drive. I don't think that performance difference will matter for gamers.
Looking to expand storage in my laptop with an m.2 ssd pcie 3.0 slot. i know this a gen 4 but still good deal. has anyone heard if this gets too hot? i doubt i would have room for a heat sync. i want to maintain low temps and i'm looking for a 1tb or 2tb that is reliable.
Got a 2TB 970 evo plus from Microcenter for $155 after $25 coupon for posting gaming rig on their site (use search to find steps). My laptop only supported gen3 anyway & think this is a solid deal.

Almost pulled trigger on refurb, but doubt the Samsung warranty would still cover it. Bought new from mc instead.

That link is for 980 (non pro) which is PCIE 3.0 and slower.
For gen4, this is solid.
