This is a good price for a "meh" but fully serviceable bike - not mountain bike. Surely capable to ride around in city trails, commute etc while focusing at the lowest possible price, just don't try to follow your seasoned MTB friends on single track with this...think of it as "gravel" bike at best.

This is also not a $400 MSRP bike by any stretch of imagination, this is a $120-150 bike, or at least it was pre-pandemic.

Good value for riding around the neighborhood or gifting to a wife or a kid that won't try crazy shit on it.

I've seen this bike. There's a few of them in the endcap bike display. It seemed an odd looking bike at first, that's why I stopped and looked at it. Then I started comparing it with the 26" Schwinn next to it and figured out this 27.5" bike is a 26" bike with a extended seat. Looks kind of dorky IMO, like a low rider bike with long seat pipe.. You might want to look at it first before purchase. The $90-something Roadmaster looked better to me. Just my 2 cents.

Is it normal for this bike to pedal too easily on first gear? It feels like no resistance at all.
It's a 21 speed bike. Is the chain over the largest front sprocket?

If anyone in NJ wants the size L at cost, let ne know. Have just assembled this and realized it's not the right size for me.

Just FYI, I did the same and was able to select a return to store option. Just wheeled it into the returns desk for a full refund.

It most likely was. I changed the gear so now it's more normal. I just expected the first gear to be normal and then change from there to either easier or harder.

I too am used to 1st gear on a 7 speed bike. I recently got a couple other used 21 speed bikes and was amazed how easy it was to pedal in comparison, but of course that was due to using the smaller sprockets on the crank.

How do you all generally shift the gears? Start with 3 and 7? I have not really used bikes with gears in the past.

In general, treat it as a 7 speed bike (right shift lever) with 3 different ranges (left shift lever).

Uphill use the low range. Flats, the middle range. Downhill or with the wind, high range.

I will typically use the middle ring on front and all 7 in back on my 21 speed. If I'm climbing something really steep I will use 1 in front then gears 1-3 in the back. There is a lot of overlap between ranges. So using 1-4 (front ring - back ring) is about the same as 2-1. So unless I need something lower than 2-1 I just stay in the middle ring. The same is true of the top/fastest ring. 3-5 is about the same ratio as 2-7. So unless I'm speeding down a hill I don't bother with the #3 ring in front.

Note:. Don't use the small front ring with the smaller rear rings or large front with large rear rings. It tries to shift the chain too much. See the link below.

In general 4th gear in the back is my limit. So I won't mix 1-front with 5-7 in back or 3-front with 1-3 in back.

Walmart online declined my return. Instead, they just refunded the total cost of the bike + tax. Check for missing return link, then chat with rep. At this location (perhaps not others), they didn't want it back. Not the first time this has happened here. Free bike.

So for driving around flat terrain in my neighborhood, I should just use 2 in the front always? Thanks for the cross chaining link. But reading it it seems that you should use your front gears in sync with your back gears. Like if using 3 in the front, then only use between 4-7 in the back.

Basically you should use which ever range is comfortable for you. I think most people find the middle-front ring is the one they use the most because it has a wide, useful range and can work with the full range in the back. For casual riding you just don't need the fastest or slowest speeds that much.

You are correct in saying the range of rear gears you use is dependent on the front ring you are using. So for me I will use middle with 1-7rear. I will use big/fast/3front with 4-7 in the back but typically won't need the extra speed unless I'm going down a hill. I will use small/slow/1front with 1-4 in the back but typically I will only shift that low if I'm tired and climbing a steep hill, pulling the bike trailer or climbing a steep burn/hill when I was using this bike off road.

Got the ST100 for $98+tax size large and its do able for me at 5.10' anyone
less than 5.9' would have trouble climbing on the large, probably sized according
to region they are selling in. The bike is 10/10 by itself, ordered $10 extendable
kickstand, mini pump, patch kit, chain lube, gel seat cover etc. The bike box was intact
although the front small reflector light was cracked inside, no other problem.
Great deal but I would get the cruiser type if I could do it again, keeping it until
the wheels fall off.
Things you need to do: Handle bar, front tire, brake adjustment, both tires need
air [mini pump worked great] small chain guard needs to be attached, seat and
handle bar adjusted, had to pull the chain over the sprocket teeth [easy].
The weight is about 33 lbs.
Good thing is you will find lots of how to videos...from India! Applause its a
popular brand over there.

I am of same height and I prefer XL. I got both L n XL and returning the L since it's too much of stem vs frame. Check my post in last page with pics of L vs XL

So its not only about the seat post height, its also about the reach and position. I think on XL the reach will be longer, making you bend your back to grab the handle more than L.
