Because it's the difference between giving $20 to every single customer vs. giving $20 to only the customers that jump through the hoops for it. You'd be surprised at how few customers buy the product based on the MIR and not actually submit it. Huge savings for the manufacturer!
why are these tech companies trying to go back to mail in rebates??? is it 2002 or 2022??

exactly why this practice needs to be outlawed! manufacturers hope to make sales projections and then offer these "rebates". when projections aren't met all sorts of creative excuses are made why the rebate didn't qualify and why it was late!

This lower tier 6000 series basically has a similar result to the 5700 XT according to passmark.

I paid close to this price for a 580 4GB 5 or so years ago.

Seems like a slick deal at sub $300.

Not sure if you still have to cut out the UPC. If yes, then you also can't return the product right?

I wouldn't go so far as to completely outlaw the practice. However, I would want to have requirements legislated that if you advertise a price with a MIR, then you have to send out the MIR with x number of days after receiving the submission from the customer. Waiting 90 or 120 days is just not acceptable.

Prices with Rebates are precursors for what the price will be in the next coming weeks WITHOUT the rebate

Except they don't check how many people will not buy it when there's a MIR. Pretty sure I am not the only one that avoid all of them now. Great in 2002 but anymore in 2022.

Right now GPU's are getting more rebates because the prices are dropping. So the stores took inventory and can't move product unless the price is cut. Stores don't want to eat tha price drop. So the store can either return the unsold inventory or the manufacdturer can do a rebate to help adjust the price and move the inventory. I am sure its more compliated than that but thats the general idea I've gotten.

Why are they 'mail in' rebates specifically? Just to F' with us. Companies bank on people not doing rebates 1/2 the time and making it an annoying task involving using an actual stamp and envelope increases their bottom line.
