If this had a 16:10 screen I would bite. It seems like a great deal.

There's a cool function called Change Resolution in Display Settings. 😁

Now, if you're talking about a 16:10 screen at 1200p or 1600p, I totally feel you.

Can anyone comment on how good firmware and driver update support is for Lenovo consumer laptops? Are they anywhere close to Thinkpad support?

Damn, I just bought this directly from Microsoft for $805 like two weeks ago. Went with it compared to a refurb Surface Laptop 4 for ~$650 given better screen, better CPU, 16 GB RAM vs 8 GB, and 512 GB SSD vs 256 GB. Integrated graphics either way which doesn't bother me. I'm glad I didn't pay for a GPU because this is a secondary machine to my desktop.

The touchpad is extremely, extremely sensitive. I have the OS set to the lowest sensitivity but the touchpad still audibly clicks on light touch and Windows registers a lot of them as clicks with very little pressure. One review I read called the keys spongy and I kind of agree. I understand why people didn't like this model at release with the price tag at the time. It is very thin and light, and I couldn't find a better 14" 4K anywhere else.

Is this a much better machine than the 14" IdeaPad 5 Pro Laptop: 14" 2.2K Touch, Ryzen 5 6600HS, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD $740? Or just a better build quality and lighter?

Doesn't this have a 16:10 aspect screen?? Lenovo has been using that ration for years now on most their mid tier and up 13~14" laptops

Not according to the description. The pictures look like it does because it has a blacked out, rather large bottom bar.
