We've got wedding coming up, so I'm trying to figure out what are actually lifetime items for the house, so folks that want to gift - gift things we use for life and can think of our friends every time we use them!

I actually don't think most people would recognize the difference between the steel/copper ones and the steel/aluminum clad ones unless they were observing them closely while cooking.
We've got wedding coming up, so I'm trying to figure out what are actually lifetime items for the house, so folks that want to gift - gift things we use for life and can think of our friends every time we use them!
But if you need cookware, D3 is solid and lifetime, probably lodge cast iron and Le Crueset enameled Dutch ovens would fit in that category as well.

The main differences in pieces are a larger 8qt vs 6qt stock pot, two sauce pans (1.5 & 3qt) vs one (2qt), and an extra smaller 8" fry pan. So I guess it comes down to the extra pieces and whether they are useful and whether it's better to spend more for "better" in specs but not in everyday use.

The d3 pans feel much more manageable and I honestly can't say I've noticed the d5 difference when cooking. The d5 do feel indestructible though, definitely feels like your getting a lifetime product. All that being said this is definitely a good price if the set fits your needs AND you're okay with heavy pans.
