Have three pairs of this model. At first I didn't like the added stack height over V2/V1. Felt less stable and that's still an issue. But the Gaviota V3 has a midsole that is more forgiving on my metatarsals than the previous versions. I think I may move to something with less stability and less stack height such as the Arahi.
Those of you familiar with the original V1 and the V2 will probably find the V3 more sluggish if you're a midfoot striker. The thicker midsole has made the heel area clunkier and because of this it's very difficult, perhaps impossible, to have a clean midfoot strike in the V3. The two prior versions had a cleaner landing. However, the transition (or roll) is still smooth. But V1 and V2 were much quicker shoes, especially the latter.
Running on grassy patches, such as cutting across from one sidewalk to another instead of running all the way to the street corner, highlights the V3's reduced stability. I used to use the V1 for long mixed surface trail runs. But the V3 is too wobbly on undulating terrain. This is probably due to not only the added stack height but the fact that more softer EVA foam was used in this update. The upper also has more volume compared to V2 and V1. The upper on V1 was the most secure and V3 has the weakest lockdown.
Durability for V3 is markedly better than V2. The added carbon rubber coverage in the center of the forefoot is a great addition. The midsole on my oldest V3 pair is not exhibiting any overt signs of flattening out and outsole shedding slowed down after the first few weeks.
