I did drop the money for this new version, despite owning the previous two; I wanted the updated rules and haunts. That said, every version has its issues and I promise you this one will too - just need time for the players to find it. I think the biggest benefit to this version is the ability to narrow down the possible haunts before starting, to avoid repeating the same haunt too many times. In previous versions, there are haunts I've never seen and some I've played 3-4 times.

The problem with games like this is that there are just TOO MANY things to try and work through to balance. There's so much variability to this game that they simply cannot play test this enough before release. I'm not bad mouthing them at all, it's a HARD job. To properly playtest this, they would have to play every single haunt a few dozen times. Multiply that by the number of haunts, factor in variable player counts and board/house layout...it's a lot.

I just bought the second edition of this earlier this year and played it with my family. They were mostly baffled and annoyed by the tons of doodads and unclear rules. I wish I'd just waited and bought this edition instead. Sounds like they fixed some of the issues they had. Now I'm like... Should I drop $30 to buy a game I already have and might never play again or just let it be?

The second edition is a great intro into larger scale boardgames and has tons of replayability. What are the updates to this new version?

This is a great game; once you get to know the general rules, you can play a pick-up game with friends in 20-30 mins. I love the replayability and how even the same scenarios can be made easier or more difficult just depending on how much house you've explored, and which characters your playing with.

I think it sounds fun. Wish I had someone to play it with

Many prefer harder-to-understand rules. Gives them a sense of superiority.

My friends own this. We play it just about every time we hangout. The rules and haunts in the 2nd Ed. can be pretty ambiguous. That said, we usually have a blast. Something to note - this is one of the few board games we can find for 6 players.

We bought the 3rd edition this week, can't wait to try it
