Sam's club has a mobile scan and go option that allows you to skip waiting in lines!
Costco for pricing (by a bit, unless combined with instant savings) and quality of products. Electronics generally better pricing and warranty (with card). Less car service options.

Sam's for convenience and vast variety of items…many of which can be found at costco in smaller packaging though. Better tire and car service options (head lights, rotation etc, INSTALL battery. Sam's usually has slightly worse pricing than costco (but with instant savings and year long purchasing, costco wins out economically). Alcohol varies…but would always choose the costco branches with in store liquor.
Sam's has always been way faster for years with scan and go, and self checkout. My local costco just started self..but still not close to Sam's speed. At the end of a crappy work day, an extra 30min in chaos can be hell.

Overall I would go to Costco. I have both memberships. I found that the area and location of the club matters far more than whether it's Costco or Sam's. It also Caters to broader cultural markets… Jewish Muslim Indian etc. during the year for our holiday events it actually comes in quite handy, for a price and convenience of food items.
Depends. If you just want a place with cheap paper towels, TP, cat litter, bottled water, Sam's is a better bet.

If you care about frozen food quality and variety, or quality meat, Costco is better.

Of course, this is my experience in Texas. Don't know about other states. I generally switch memberships based on promos.

I will say, stick to Costco gas and not Sam's, Sam's gas isn't Top Tier (less detergents, only use if you really don't care about your car, but IMO it's worth a couple extra cents more to get better gas)

We've been with Costco forever, but for -effectively- $5, I might just try Sam's for a year.

I did this about 5 years ago and was unimpressed with their selection and prices compared to Costco... may be things have changed. We shall see.

Not sure about your location, but at my state, Sam's sucks… not comparable to Costco. But I may have it for 5 dollars since sometimes Sam's has good online deals.

Costco is cheaper in some categories while Sam's is cheaper in others. Costco does have higher quality products (in my opinion). Important thing to remember because of deals like these and deals where they basically "give away" membership, more and more people have Sam's membership = longer lines. Only disadvantage of Costco is that they don't accept Discover Cards.

On the Sam's app, you can use scan and go, bypassing check out lanes. Costco's app lacks that option.

It saves so much time. I never carry my card, just show my phone. I wish I could skip the line at the pump. 🙈

I know it says new subscribers only, but what if you were a member in the past and canceled. Is there some time period after which you cancel that you would be considered new again?

Sam's is better because they have Scan and Go on their App and way less crowded. You don't need to wait in lines to checkout. Costco is too crowded and has too much traffic. Sam's is also much cheaper for basic items like Milk, Cheese, Eggs, Produce, TP, Paper towels, water, snacks, etc.

Costco gives you less food options. They basically sell one kind of peanut butter, and one kind of mustard, and if you don't like those, you have to go somewhere else. Sam's Club sells multiple kinds of mustard, and multiple kinds of peanut butter. But, the quality will vary from brand to brand, as will the price. That's how I tend to describe the difference. Costco is quality over quantity. And, Sam's is quantity over quality.

You can, at least where I go to. Scan and pay from one barcode on the phone

What about Cashback? My Costco Executive membership pays for itself every year. Does the basic membership at Sam's has cash back/rewards?
