I feel like everything leaks these days. I don't get it
I am not sure about that. Have you tried Harbor Freight? Years ago they had coupons to get them for free. I had them in drawer and my house stays around 40 to 50% humidity year round. In less than a month they were leaking in an unopened package and I had to throw them all away. They were not worth free.

Everything in my house hates rechargeable batteries. I was changing thermostat batteries monthly instead of once a year.

And wifey can't tell the difference between rechargeable and disposable. One year she trashed about $40 worth.
I painted all my rechargeable batteries a bright neon pink color so the kids and GF would stop throwing them away. So far it's working. It's been a few years since any have gone missing.

Well I Dono what to tell you. I've had Rayovac batteries all my life. I've never had one leak. Maybe i'm just lucky. Maybe these packs I pick up will be the ones to leak. Gonna take the chance. Will report back to this specific thread if it happens this time.

Ordered 3 AAA packs for pick up, which got canceled. Then reordered and, turned on product substitution if unavailable, got 3 Walgreens branded AAA packs instead. Pretty great deal. Thanks

I have never had a battery leak in the first one or two years of its claimed 10 year shelf life.
Do not buy packs with dust on them, they are too old, also check the date on the package.

The battery packs that go on sale for Black Friday are the freshest you will find all year.
Maybe also the cheapest.

Please stop buying alkaline batteries. Rechargeable versions of every common battery type are available and getting cheaper all the time. The only use for these should be putting in an emergency flashlight and leaving them somewhere for several years, where a rechargeable would self-discharge.

Rayovac leaks overtime. I had several remotes that had to be replaced by the damaged it caused.

Of course they don't have any in stock at any of the Walgreens stores anywhere around me.

Oh well, better to tell me now than accept my order and cancel it 9 minutes later.
My experience with this deal was OOS, I'd much rather it say so before wasting my time.

Minimum online order is $10. Anyone know if you can walk into a Walgreens and just buy them at the same price???

It has nothing to do with who's better or worse. I just want lead acid batteries to stop going into landfills.

Alkaline batteries are only 1.5 volts for the first 15 minutes of use, they drop to 1.2 right after that. And rechargeable batteries actually top out at 1.5 as well, 1.2 is the lowest voltage before it needs to be recharged.

Thermostats nowadays should have another wire going to them to provide constant power and no longer require batteries. If you don't have or want to upgrade to that wiring method, they make thermostats with rechargeable batteries that use the power coming from the HVAC unit when it's on. If you don't like that either, then they also make batteries with an ultra thin wire coming out to connect to an AC outlet or larger rechargeable battery for around 16 bucks.

As for fire alarms, you should be replacing the whole alarm every 10 years because the sensor gets dirty. It's part of fire code now. They also make versions with non-removable batteries that last that full 10 years without needing replacements.

There's no reason for burning through a dozen single use batteries every year anymore. If anybody has any more complaints about rechargeables, I'd be happy to offer advice to avoid or fix issues
