Also I got mine for free due to digital credits. I've read 1984 lots over the past 30 years, like at least 5 times.
Good books. Any Nation is capable of becoming like this, regardless of the political spectrum. I often say that Nations succeed in spite of their leadership and not because of it.... that leadership is corrupt and inept no matter what country you reside in.
Good internal checks and balances written by powerful constitutions keep human nature in check and prevent authoritarianism from rising. Still nothing can totally stop it. The left claim it's the right who are authoritarians but can't see their own authoritarianism it's wild to watch. People get assimilated into their cults and when driven with enough fear can justify any action.
