Searching Amazon [amazon.com]does not show one that is cheaper at 50 ft that is lighted and rated as heavy duty
And the reviews on some of them aren't great, some comments like the jackets fading/wearing out or plugs turning black, at least with Costco I could return for an exchange or store credit a year later and not be out of money with an Amazon purchase so for a little more I get more assurance is worth it

No kidding, and I wouldn't expect half the length to be half the price for a couple reasons:
- nothing ever is priced like that, price always gets better with quantity
- Sometimes shorter is better. Yes I could use a 100ft for every job, but for jobs where I only need 10 feet, its a huge PITA.
When comparing extension cords you also need to make sure you're comparing apples to apples - e.g. lit ends, wire gauge, sheathing type, name brand, etc etc etc

I can get a 1000 ft of licorice for $10 for the next ten years so I win! No clue
