so the difference between dot3 and dot 4 is the higher boiling point of dot4.

dot4 can be added to dot3, but not the other way around. dont add dot3 to dot4.

the easiest way to find out which dot your car takes is to look at the brake fluid cap.

Heads up for dummies like me.. brake fluid drops as the brake pads wear down. It goes back up when you get new pads. I wish someone had told me that lol

The cylinder moves in the caliper every time you step on brakes. Changing the brake pads won't put air in the system....unless you're doing it wrong.

80 mph is too legal. I've traveled plenty of interstates where the posted speed limit is 85 mph... You need to get out more. LMAO

In parts of the country 75mph is the official limit, but not posted everywhere

I have only topped off my brake fluid a couple of times. This maintenance seems much more than that

You don't need to bleed for a simple pad replacment or shoe replacment? Never seen anybody or any professional bleed for a simple pad or even rotors replacment.
This man speaks the truth! I'm a diesel mechanic, done countless brake pad jobs, never once bled the brakes. It's not necessary unless you have fluid leak or caliper damage.

I changed the brake fluid in my car last fall and then my wife's car today. In both cases, I couldn't tell when the new fluid was coming out bleeder values. The new and old fluid look the same.

I had to redo one car because I kept expecting the color change to be obvious and ended up with air in the lines. (I was doing it by myself and didn't notice the reservoir was getting empty.)

Any experts care to tell me what I should look for besides color change?

Thank you.
What tool are you using to do this? Vacuum bleeder or gravity bleed?

Safe bet is just to keep any eye out on air bubbles going through the clear tubing.

Guaranteed to have crap brake pedal feel if you don't bleed the fluid after changing pads.
Wrong. Explain why we need to change fluid after pad replacement.

It's $7.49 now.
Probably means only the DOT fluid got added to the cart - not the 3 item bundle.

bought a 2+ yr old car, flushed earlier this year yr 4 with a one way hydraulic valve on the bleeder. Huge difference. They say humidity kills the fluid, but in my experience the heat does too. Especially if the previous owner rode the brakes. I then did my gf 4 year old camry and the brakes are like new now. She thought she needed new brakes, but the pads were barely worn.

I change out pads regularly from street to track pads and do NOT change the fluid each time. I change the fluid when the pedal feels soft, usually from moisture that's absorbed by the brake fluid or if I get the fluid too hot- haven't boiled it yet but the paint on the calipers has changed colors. My brake pedal feels solid after each pad change.
