I went to my local Best Buy where they said they would price match it. They tried to ring it up on the system and the system wouldn't let them price match the item and apparently a manager wouldn't be able to override it.
I went home and tried to chat with Best Buy on their website and they said they don't price match "daily or hourly sales" despite this being a weekly sale.
My following attempts with Target with chat and phone also resulted in a fail as they told me that they don't price match sale items (what??).
I hit up one of my local Target stores where the rep ended up checking with his supervisor and said that they price match Staples, but not Staples Connect.
My final attempt was to another Target location nearby. The associate who assisted me rang me up simply refreshed the page on my phone for both watches and saw they were valid and just matched them.
Truly a YMMV deal…
The trick is to tell service rep to go to Staples.com not to staplesconnect.
Sequence is:
Staples.com -> Deals->Weekly Ad page 8 and click desired model to select variant.
If you are polite and lucky they won't check in stock for staples - like mine didn't. Also you could counter the sale or timed sale by simply saying Target itself issues its own Weekly Ad so Staples is more or less same
Calling worked better than chat.

Years ago I bought my wife an apple watch (series 2?) She recently broke the screen and wants me to buy a repair it to fix it. Id like to surprise her with a new watch. That said, when I mentioned before about getting a new one, she complains that she has to pay for a new line and she doesn't have to do that with her watch now? Also I do not have unlimited funds. She would be happy with the same watch....with that said, what is the best newer model comparatively speaking and on a budget.

They did not like the "in store only" thing. I said I purchased one earlier online and did not know why it's showing "in store only" now.
A little white lie to hopefully get them to price match. They said I could email a copy of the receipt for proof after I mentioned that idea.
I choose Walmart for there longer return policy.
Going to try Best Buy next.
Target is 2 weeks for apple products. Best Buy I believe is 15 🤷 ♀️
