According to WOOT this refurb is supposed to "look and work like new." Consumer Reports has ranked Shark vacuums, esp the Navigator line, at the top of their upright sweeper rankings. Here is a link to this model's user manual [sharkclean.com], if you're interested. I did not see this model in CR's current rankings, so this is likely a slightly older model, but a Navigator model (NV586 that sells for $300) took the top spot under "Upright Vacuums." These vacs came with a 5 yrs warranty (when new), so that may explain why even though they're very reliable, there's a fair share of refurbs out there. Finally, given this is an older model, when it was new, Walmart was selling it for $250 [walmart.com].
  • This lightweight 2-in-1 Lift-Away® upright vacuum is equipped with a detachable pod for portable cleaning power and a completely sealed anti-allergen system with a HEPA filter.
  • Upright Mode
  • Get powerful deep cleaning on carpets and strong suction on bare floors like tile, wood, and more.
  • Lift-Away® Mode
  • Detach the pod for heightened portability and easily clean hard-to-reach areas, stairs, and more.
  • Power on Furniture
  • Lift the pod away for a lightweight clean above the floor.
  • Add attachments to remove pet hair, dust, and debris from furniture, mattresses, curtains, and other upholstered surfaces.
  • Extended Reach
  • With the pod in one hand, you can reach the hidden messes in your home on ceilings, fans, and more.
  • Powerful Pet Hair Pickup
  • Handle every bit of hair that your cats and dogs leave behind on carpets and floors.
  • LED Headlights
  • Powerful lights on the nozzle reveal hidden debris around your home.
  • Advanced Swivel Steering
  • Excellent control when maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles that stand in your way.
  • Anti-Allergen Complete Seal
  • Captures and traps 99.9%* of dust and allergens while preventing them from escaping back into the air you breathe. *Based on ASTM F1977 of particles 0.3 microns or larger.

This refurbished product is tested and certified to look and work like new. The refurbishing process includes functionality testing, basic cleaning, inspection, and repackaging. The product ships with all relevant accessories, a 90-day warranty, and may arrive in a generic box.

They contradict themselves in this listing. At the top it says "Hey, you there! These items are expected to have a moderate level of wear & tear including (but not limited to) scratches, dents, and dings. Outside of their physical appearance, they have been tested to be in full working condition."

Then, at the bottom, it says "This refurbished product is tested and certified to look and work like new."

So it can have a moderate level of wear and tear and still look like new. Hmmm....

I don't think that's necessarily a contradiction. "Wear and tear," is generally use... so, in other words, the motor may have a year of use on it, before the owner returned it for warranty replacement (for some issue not related to the motor). The refurbisher can then make it look like new by replacing a host of items, but the motor still has a year of use on it.

Wear and tear says it can have dents. If something has a dent then there's no way it can look like new.

I bought a Shark vacuum years ago on eBay that was refurbished and it ran just fine until the day I decided to upgrade to a new, similar model. Can't say that will be everybody's experience, but I've had pretty good luck with refurbs myself.

TLDR: possible vacuum lottery on these, but Woot customer service was not a hassle from my experience.

Ordered same Shark refurbished from Woot: first one had a broken bottom bracket assembly out of the box and looked like it had heavy use (but it was thoroughly clean). I contacted customer service via email who requested a picture of the broken part. They offered to partially refund $20 if I decided to keep it and me follow-up with Shark on their warranty, or have it returned and refunded all at Woot's expense. They were sold out of it at the time to order a replacement, so I went with refund which processed just fine. Same vacuum was posted on Woot a couple weeks later so I ordered it again. The unit I received looked brand new as if someone opened it but decided to return for whatever reason, and has been working just fine.

Anytime I've gotten 'wear and tear' items from Woot they've looked almost new. Wit hthe exception of one Ninja 12-in-1 that had a teensy eensy dent.

Ordered this from Woot a couple years ago. Works fine, very easy to control. My housekeeper commented on it. As a vacuum, it is not a sealed system. If you're allergy-prone, look for sealed vacuum with Hepa exhaust system. They don't come cheap. After countless Hoover and Sharks bag-less vacuums, I have learned my lesson and going back to bagged vacuum.

For carpet, cheapest you can/should get, is Hoover T-Series Tempo, Hoover WindTunnel UH30301, about $100 to $150. For better quality, older Kenmore bagged vacuums, designed and built by Panasonic. Kenmore Elite 31140, 31150, 31160, or BU1016, BU1017, BU1018. About $200-$300 on Amazon and Walmart. Above that, you start getting into boutique brands, Sebo, Miele, Kirby...etc...

For hard floor, bagged canisters by Kenmore Elite 300 or 400 series, or Miele C1 Compact, C2, C3 will do you well.

The new Kenmore Intuition line, bagged or not, are designed and made by Cleva (China)

I had 1 previous woot vacuum that was very clean as a refurb and one that was very funky smelling(musty smell, not great). Hit or miss I guess.

Is it sealed anti-allergen?

Once in a while you can catch a good clearance at Walmart but this is a pretty good deal. I grabbed a black $60.00 refurb off Ebay a few years ago and it was really clean and still going strong.
