Damn, there's a lot of hate for meat-alternative products in this thread. Yeah, it's more expensive, and doesn't taste exactly like meat. Generally, I do like eating real beef and chicken, but sometimes, I just want something with less cholesterol and less environmental impact than beef. Might not be the healthiest, especially on the sodium side, but it's still better than its meat counterpart. That's why I don't mind eating it once in a while.

Have you actually tried the beyond orange chicken at panda express? I thought it was quite good.

It's not supposed to be a healthy alternative. It's for people who just don't/can't eat meat. So probably not for you.

Bolds part of quote where person specifically mentions the lower "cholesterol and less environmental impact than beef." and proceeded to offer "evidence" using an example that fits their narrative because if they actually used beef as an example it wouldn't hold up...
Actually, the results if comparing Beyond Beef and real beef are similar to these results. Maybe the percentages aren't exactly the same, but they'd be close. Beyond Beef has 0 cholesterol, but still more sodium than regular beef. The greenhouse impact of beef is still significantly higher than meat alternatives.

The other person's point is that neither of them are better than the other. There are disadvantages and advantages of both. Everyone is free to choose what they want to eat. So why hate on others?

I eat meat, and I don't understand why is it so hard for people to accept the fact that producing meat generates more environmental impact

Are you trying to make yourself feel better? Who are you trying to justify?
In the US at least, it seems that a large swath of the population has lost, or just never had, any sort of ability to feel shame and instead spout their easily provable ignorance as some sort of regressive wokeness.

The coal industry and the en-mass rejection of retraining that liberals have been trying to do for DECADES is great example of this. After several coal mines closed this year, these idiot rubes actually had the audacity to ask why liberals didn't push for job retraining...

Basically: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that"

Unless you're the only person who doesn't season their beef when cooking it, this is an inaccurate look at the end product. Let us know what you come up with after you add the actual salt used to cook a beef burger.

Not to mention the cholesterol in beef, which plant based meat does not have.
I also add salt when I cook Impossible/Beyond burger too, so I doubt there would be much of a deviation in terms of difference in sodium.

I eat Impossible, Beyond Burger meat, as well as real beef.

I kept getting payment declined, but as soon as I logged out it worked? Just FYI in case anyone goes through problems.
I got the same problems when I was logged out, but I logged in, and it worked. 😂😅

Panda's been eating some "eucalyptus" leaves that are shaped like maple leaves but are longer and have jagged edges

We've come full cycle. Fast food Chinese take-out dishes at premium prices.

I'm not biased
You know that Korean, Japanese and Thai food have been boostered by government policies, right? Szechuan food is now getting the same kind of boost. Expect to see more of this from less Americanized restaurants.

I think it's hard to push the environmental impact here, or the ethical argument for that matter.

You can hardly say that growing Soybeans and Corn (or any crop) in MASSIVE amounts doesn't have an environmental impact on the land. A field of soybeans is a much less natural state of the land than a field grazed by cattle. If you think eating plant based doesn't involve the killing off of environments, ecosystems and thus animals, you just don't fully understand where your food comes from.

I'm not one bit against anyone eating however they want, but let's not pretend that eating this extra-processed, plant based meat replacement is better for than environment or humans. You've simply changed from directly killing animals for your protein to indirectly killing animals for your protein.

I also totally understand some of the ethical issues with meat productions as well, there's no perfect answer here but just because you eat "plant based meat" doesn't mean you aren't leading to the death of innocent animals.

I've grown up in the midwest surrounded by farms of all types (mostly corn, soybean, grazed cattle, wheat, pig and chicken farms). The fact of the matter is mass produced food of any kind is going to have an environmental impact, this is why I grow as much of my food as possible, and buy meat from suppliers I am willing to support.
where do you think most of that corn and soybean are going?

Ordered two of the bowls of the Beyond Orange Chicken using the code. Like a idiot, I thought Beyond just meant a spicier chicken. It was OK but my taste buds are used to real chicken. Not knowing this was a plant based meal, both my wife and I said we would never order this again and that it just seemed different in taste and texture not even knowing this was plant based. Few hours later thought of checking the comments on this Slickdeal offer and now everything makes sense. If you are a non meat eating person for a variety of good reasons(IMO) this might not be a bad alternative,

Ok, I didn't read the comments and was about to order when I realized that "Beyond Orange Chicken" is not "Beyond Orange" Chicken with extra orange/spicy/etc. but Orange Chicken with "Beyond (fake) Chicken", so… no…

Ick. I support options but Jesus, I will not support a penny towards it. If anything regular meat should get cheaper which it hasn't

Tried it for dinner and it wasn't too bad. My son had some and didn't know it wasn't real chicken .🤣 Would I order again? Not if I have to pay for it, but I would get it again for my vegetarian daughter before the offer expires.

Just tried beyond orange chicken it wasn't good. It's nothing like the original orange chicken. It basically tastes like hard fried tofu.

Works. $9.54 for two bowls but I am skeptical of the value after reading comments about the beyond chicken.
I think most folks would be hard-pressed to tell the difference if not told.
