90% of the people in this country couldn't tell the difference in quality between this and a tv double the price. It's fine for most uses and probably an upgrade for anyone with a tv five years old.
My dad's in his late 50s and still has a flip phone I don't think he'll notice the backlight bleed šŸ˜‚
if people are buying a 1000$ 86'' TV, they should know what they're getting
this is for folks that value size over picture, plain and simple.

Quantity has a quality all its own.

Almost got this one, purely based on size over picture quality. I convinced myself to get Costco's Hisense 75U75H instead, better picture quality. I wanted an upgrade from my budget H6570G series, which would probably be exact same picture as this monster LG, but bigger size.

There are portable lcd projectors that people buy as second and third TV's to get a large picture, with no quality. In think the majority of people will be very happy with this picture quality, comparing it to better quality displays at higher prices really doesn't add a whole lot. Forget price per inch, this tv has solid bang for your buck. Good quality picture, large screen experience, about $1k. That's a pretty magical combination for many.

Checking the specs this doesn't have the Nanocell tech or local dimming so yea its just big tv that is barebones.

I could tell the difference in the store up close, but I really wish I had chosen quantity over quality. I paid a good bit more than this for a nice 65" screen, but I never have content on it where that quality would matter.

I think a lot of enthusiasts forget that in learning what the differences are between a $1K TV and a $4K TV, they train themselves to notice imperfections as part of the critical viewing required to differentiate between them.

IF you could grab a person off the street, show them a 4K Blu-ray and they say "hey, was that screen dirty?" or "that grayscale didn't track very accurately" I'd be with you. I don't think that's the case though, so it just comes off as pedantic or elitist when folks talk about how much better a range-topping model is compared to the big box value series.

For my 2bucks (or whatever the current amount is under our crippling inflation), I would say that few people who are shopping for a $1K 86" TV are cross shopping with OLEDs and that the giant screen will mean MUCH more to them than whether or not a 20 point IRE adjustment is adequate

BUT....he'll definitely notice the lack of 4K @120Hz and VRR inputs.

I bought an 86" budget LG UP8770 (very similar to this) at Costco last year with the 5 year warranty for 1499 before tax. I got a $50 Costco card and a $100 streaming credit. I sold the TV to a local bar owner. I kept it about 6 months and then sold it to her for $1200 to use in her bar. I told her I'd help her out if she ever needed to use the warranty. Her customers at the bar love it. I upgraded to an 83" LG C1 for $3200 total price through that green bidding site. There is no comparison for watching movies with dark scenes. If you are just watching sports, this TV will do a fine job. The motion handling is very good, and it gets bright. However, if you watch movies, you will be disappointed with the light bleed and black levels.

The man spends most of his tv time watching old westerns or procedural cop shows and the occasional marvel movie the 75" lg I got him years ago is still doing the job haha

What do you think of the U75H? I got the 65" last week and am enjoying it so far.

But there are TV from more than 5 years ago...such as say the Samsung KS8000 from 2016...that are far better picture quality than this
Exactly the TV I have, and it's far FAR superior to any of the non-OLED LGs.

But like you said, gotta manage expectations. It's a $1100 86" TV.

I suspect a lot of folks only care about the size and not about black levels, brightness, light bleed, etc.

All that being said - if true, I'm surprised it's a true 120Hz panel at this price.
