This is basically the cheapest entry level avr. If you do like 10 minutes of research you'll probably find that you'll want to upgrade fairly quickly if you actually get into home theater. If you're someone who just wants to power the speakers you have so you don't have to deal with TV speakers then this will be just fine. I would recommend trying to find an older higher tier used model at a thrift store/Craigslist etc if possible.
I have this. Zero issues and it gets uncomfortably loud if I crank it, . Does freak out with pc inputs so those I have on the tv. Also Firestick 4k remote and Samsung remote both control volume on tv. Def great buy
Thank God AVRs are finally going back on sale below MSRP

No atmos support? Pass
Atmos only really matters if you have more than 5 channels.

His point was it's not an atmos capable avr so he'll pass, not that anyone cares if he buys it or not.
It would need to be 5.2.2 at least vs 5.2.

Would this be better than my avr-2308ci? I have complete surround sound on it. Hooked up to a 4k tv which I don't think supports it. However it sounds pretty good as I have it with 5.1 or 7.1.

I doubt it unless you need some feature on this or the switching but sounds like it works for you now.
The 2308 is a much better receiver IMO

There is nothing wrong with spring connectors, especially if you ferrule the end of your wires.

If you use banana jacks with your binding posts this would not apply.

In fact in reliability, folks avoid binding post and screw type connections because they loosen with thermal cycling. Spring terminals are preferred for industrial automation wiring in high reliability applications.
I am going to strongly disagree with this comment. You cannot convince me that using bare speaker wire is better than using banana plugs. I use/have both. Using bare wires and the spring loaded clamp is *garbage* for multiple reasons, biggest being a more reliable/tight connection and ease of use. Lack of banana plug connection is literally the reason I am not buying this. I was ready and willing to let them take my money until I saw that.

"biggest being a more reliable/tight connection and ease of use."

I prefer banana plugs, but truth is most people connect their speaker wires to their amp/receiver once and leave them for years. These spring terminals don't just spontaneously stop working, and are as easy to connect as binding posts. They're actually EASIER because there's no banana plugs to buy and install. Spring connectors are actually less susceptible to wires being pulled out of them. You could drag an amp around by the speaker wires connected to spring connectors. Banana plugs would simply pull out with little force.
The reasons you stated for preferring banana plugs aren't necessarily wrong, but only matter if you're frequently connecting/disconnecting wires.

It seems you missed the specific separated sentence mentioning banana plugs and "this would not apply". I suppose you also may have missed "especially if you ferrule your wires" In fact I think you were quite selective in your reading.

Yes, of COURSE I (and the rest of the industrial wiring world) agree that banana jacks (I assume you mean soldered or you have the exact same problems as any other screw based pressure fit) are better than bare wire in spring terminals.

Sorry my original comment was so confusing.

I have had one for a couple years, it's ok. PS5 works fine 4k/60. If you want 120hz, go to TV first.

For reasons I cannot figure out, I cannot power this unit OFF with my Harmony 650 remote. It will turn it on when it runs the function macros, but won't turn it OFF. So I have to remember to walk over and hit the power button (or fish the remote out of my coffee table drawer)... which I am really bad about not doing after I fall asleep on the couch watching tv. 50/50 chance of noticing my AVR is still on the next morning.

I prefer banana plugs too, but hard to find a name brand a/v receiver for this price these days. Frown

That sucks, but I assume HDMI-ARC still works to turn this off?

I have a bunch of harmony remotes. I just got two One Ultimates. And, in the past year, I've been buying really nice used receivers ones on FB marketplace just to try them until I found one I loved. I've had HK, Pioneer, Pioneer Elite, and Yamaha. I also recently bought two new large TVs. The main reason I've done this is to get ARC to work properly.

With the new TVs, one Roku and one Android, HDMI ARC and eARC have SUCKED. They're so stinking inconsistent. Doesn't seem to matter the remote, the receiver, or the TV. ARC just sucks. I have found that turning off all ARC features and just letting the harmony remotes do the work is the most reliable. Hell, on the android TV, I've even had to stop using HDMI 1 (eARC) altogether! Even turning the features off causes problems. I plugged in the receiver to HDMI 2, without ARC, and it works better. I'm currently using a Pioneer Elite with Hisense Android TV and a harmony One ultimate with 6 devices connected.

Oh, and before I forget... the Pioneer Elite I'm using has BANANA PLUGS! FTW!

I assume it doesn't have bluetooth.

I need to replace a 5 year old receiver because it doesn't work all that great as a central hub for my fire box and smart tv. I want to use the receiver remote for everything. Is this going to work? .

I know nothing about audio, but the house I recently moved into was wired for a surround sound system. I bought this receiver and paired it with the Klipsch Reference Theater pack. Connected it to my TCL 6 series and it's been a great starter system. The receiver turns on and off automatically when the TV does and I control the volume using the TCL remote. Perfect for the price.

Based on the name that would not be my assumption. I would assume the opposite. Did you read info on the 540 unit?

I would expect the firetv remote to be the only remote that you needed.

ok, I see the button now. I read in the reviews that this will work as I was asking, so I might pull the plug.

"BT" in the model number stands for bluetooth.
