Lots of complaints about noise and vibration in newer units compared to old ones from 20 years ago and earlier. It sounds like the motors and bearings are being made in a sloppy factory with loose tolerances nowadays. I would never put this in a bedroom unless you really like noise (according to reviews) BUT it could maybe work in a window far from where people sleep, in exhaust mode to create negative pressure.

The biggest downside to using it in exhaust mode for me and a good fraction of the country is that negative pressure in your home draws up radon gas (through the normal cracks in your foundation.) I own a radon monitor that takes accurate readings hourly and can see a large difference (almost to the danger zone) when we have windows open or closed for weeks, and when we have slightly negative pressure in the home due to exhaust fans being on.

Typically whole house fans are placed in a central location (upstairs if two story). The idea being that you then open windows when cool outside and the cool air is drawn in. With this application, you're limited to a bedroom or kitchen window, but premise is the same. You would open other windows and air would be drawn in.

I've had this fan for 2 years. Use a fan controller to tune it better. It's extremely strong

I've had mine in for 6mo and really like it. What's a fan controller and how do you tune the fan?

Lowest price in the last year, but lifetime average is $172 so not really a very slick deal imo

Same here. Then winter time I remove it. Easy peasy.

It's assumed you have or install screens. Not great for allergens but great for bugs at least.

I've had one of these fans for quite some time now and one of my complaints has been the lack of a even slower speed than the slow speed on the fan. I think the fan controller might fix that issue for me. Thanks for the tip.
