That is a nice Polygon bike. It is only available in small (riders 5'1"-5'4"). The Marin has more sizes available. I highly suggest to use the correct size bike. Both bikes are very similar. The Polygon has a deeper travel suspension fork and the Marin has a better quality suspension fork with rockshox. Polygon has a more upright rider position for comfort and the Marin has a more normal aggressive mountain bike rider position. That is preference and may matter more where you ride. As for Marin brand vs Polygon brand? I know Marin to be known to be good quality brand and I have been very happy with my 2019 Marin Rock Springs 2. Polygon seems like a solid brand too. When I upgrade my hybrid in the far future, I am probably going to look at Polygon and Marin as they seem more bang for the buck.

Newer 10x1, 11x1, 12x1 setups are generally lighter, less complex (fewer points of failure/adjustment), and geared to give roughly as wide a range as older x2 or x3 drivetrains.

I bought this one back in June 2022. My height is 5' 7" and I fit fine with size "S" (Marin site recommends "M" but Jenson recommends "S"). The brakes and suspension work well. The tires feel great but they can be a bit too narrow sometime for the trails I am riding. Though, they roll faster than other average mountain bikes. The 9-speed shifts nice and goes uphill better than 7 or 8 speeds. On downhill, it's max out easily unlike the 12-speed (though the cost of 12-speed group set may be at least as much as this bike). The crank arms feel longer than normal so you may hit some rocks on a trail. You may also feel you hip rocking if you set the seat too high. I do feel sensitive on my lower hip some time if I do not set the height right. The Marin is just as light as my other all carbon full suspension that costs more than 10 times.

This is an amazing hardtail bike for the price. It will be hard to find a better deal. This one has a better fork than Polygon Premier 5. Good luck and see you on the trail.

I bought this one back in June 2022. My height is 5' 7" and I fit fine with size "S" (Marin site recommends "M" but Jenson recommends "S"). The brakes and suspension work well. The tires feel great but they can be a bit too narrow sometime for the trails I am riding. Though, they roll faster than other average mountain bikes. The 9-speed shifts nice and goes uphill better than 7 or 8 speeds. On downhill, it's max out easily unlike the 12-speed (though the cost of 12-speed group set may be at least as much as this bike). The crank arms feel longer than normal so you may hit some rocks on a trail. You may also feel you hip rocking if you set the seat too high. I do feel sensitive on my lower hip some time if I do not set the height right. The Marin is just as light as my other all carbon full suspension that costs more than 10 times.

This is an amazing hardtail bike for the price. It will be hard to find a better deal. This one has a better fork than Polygon Premier 5. Good luck and see you on the trail.

I've used many high-end mechanical disc brakes back in the day (e.g. Hayes MX2, Avid BB7, etc) and even the high-end mechanical doesn't feel as nice as a cheap hydraulic (e.g. Shimano BR-M535). It's way easier to control the amount of braking pressure with hydraulics (similar to your car brakes). A light tap on the lever, and you can feel the brakes just feathering the bike's disc rotors. This, you can modulate the hydraulic brake much better than the mechanical one, which will feel very jerky and lead to locked wheels if you're not careful and panic.

Modulation and is better with hydraulic. I would argue that if I was doing a multiday bike tour that I'd prefer mechanical . A broken hydraulic line isn't easy to fix on the road.
