I think the "IKEA LACK" side table it the current go to as it fits these cabinets pretty well and only costs $15.

Best buy sells the one with lit marquee and riser, and I got them to price match it off the Walmart link about a month ago for this price

You're correct. Sorry, I was meaning the Legacy versions sold at Walmart. Walmart has never sold that version and Best Buy would not have price matched two different versions of the cabinet.
I agree. I would assume a best buy manager would look at the pictures and notice the Walmart picture is different. I also believe model numbers or upc would be different. Personally I wouldn't feel in good conscience in scamming or stealing from any store with a bogus price match. Lets call it what it is. Trick/scam a best buy employee.

Agreed. From what I understand, Walmart was originally going to be the only retailer who sold the Legacy versions until Best Buy wanted a "higher end version" as it had more games. These cabs are not designed well, though. If you're taller or near 6', good luck seeing the top of the screen. The control deck was also redesigned to be recessed, causing your hand to sit on a ridge. $199 isn't a terrible price, but I'd rather have the Anniversary MK or Big Blue if you're looking for a cab with those games.

How to build a riser for $20. This is something I would do. The Arcade1Up riser seems to be selling for like $40-50 online. I definitely would add some riser.

I haven't seen any soft mods yet (ie: Simpsons/TMNT), but you can add a Raspberry Pi to just about any of these. That being said, if you're going that route, buy a Legends Ultimate or a Legends Gamer Pro (or the new QuadPlay) and add CoinOPS X for a much better experience.

There isn't a lit marquee version of this cabinet. The "Legacy" cabinets are value cabs that include more games but don't have the bells and whistles of the more expensive versions (lit marquee, riser, etc).
Hmm, best buy must have custom made mine then cuz mine has a lit marquee

Couldn't you just use something else as the riser? I saw someone once used a trattoria metal stool and it fit perfectly underneath.
You might be able to. The Mfg makes one too, it's designed but not painted to match the cab. I would wait for this cab with riser to go on sale.

I wouldn't put this cab on a piece of IKEA furniture. Lol buy it from the Mfg and be safe.

Before investing in any retro arcade setup I definitely recommend playing your game of choice again. I was very disappointed at how bad the game looks now versus when I was a kid and could not play most games (short of Pac-Man) for more than a couple minutes only. The idea sounded great until it's there and now mine only collects dust and takes up space.

I hear you… Defender partycade really made the cut for me due to the original controller layout. Plus it has two player couch co-op joust, gauntlet, wizard of wor, klax, and rampage…plus 5 other player 2 trade-off games. But Joust and especially defender really are the ones that sold me, not all games age that well.

Isn't the description missing these two games? op only lists 10, it's a 12 in 1

Ghosts'n Goblins, and 1944: The Loop Master.

i went through tons trouble, hundreds of $ over like a year modding my old sf2 can and now i kinda just want a stock one such as this again. there are issues with modding SUCH AS:

The software is buggy and hit or miss if some games work. Unpaid people do these Pi Images and dont care if it's not up to par nor is there any recourse. They do it and move on and dont give a blip after that.

You need different joysticks purpose built for certain games. Pac Man for example doesnt feel good at all on my modded, because it wants 4 way gates and I have 8 way I believe (OTOH if you used 4 way gates, then most other games would feel bad, it's a catch 22). No easy way to solve this, and pac man is one of the main games I wanted to play.

You can basically never rig up a shutdown switch on a modded unit, even a volume control kind of a pain. Think of it this way, it's just like a Windows PC. There's no way to just make a windows PC shut off cleanly with one button press, no you must always shut it down from a menu. It's the same way with Pi. Totally ruining any kid friendliness forever. There is a way to rig a shutdown switch, but it literally involves a complex "relay" and programming yourself, and whenever it gets to the programming yourself stage I give up.

As a perfectionist I'm still not happy with my modded unit and never will be. And improving it always involves more $.

If I had it to do over again I'd definitely get something like this with a decent variety of games, put in some sanwa sticks maybe, and call it a day.

100% agree. My brother modded a TMNT cab into NFL Blitz, and then he just bought the real Blitz cab and gave me the modded one. Had no idea it required 4 power plugs to run everything. And no on/off switch so he was using a surge protector switch to turn the whole thing on/off. Kind of a mess and I'm not even sure I want to keep it, unless I find an affordable mod kit that isn't this complicated.
