I think the "IKEA LACK" side table it the current go to as it fits these cabinets pretty well and only costs $15.

Best buy sells the one with lit marquee and riser, and I got them to price match it off the Walmart link about a month ago for this price

Isn't the description missing these two games? op only lists 10, it's a 12 in 1

Ghosts'n Goblins, and 1944: The Loop Master.

i went through tons trouble, hundreds of $ over like a year modding my old sf2 can and now i kinda just want a stock one such as this again. there are issues with modding SUCH AS:

The software is buggy and hit or miss if some games work. Unpaid people do these Pi Images and dont care if it's not up to par nor is there any recourse. They do it and move on and dont give a blip after that.

You need different joysticks purpose built for certain games. Pac Man for example doesnt feel good at all on my modded, because it wants 4 way gates and I have 8 way I believe (OTOH if you used 4 way gates, then most other games would feel bad, it's a catch 22). No easy way to solve this, and pac man is one of the main games I wanted to play.

You can basically never rig up a shutdown switch on a modded unit, even a volume control kind of a pain. Think of it this way, it's just like a Windows PC. There's no way to just make a windows PC shut off cleanly with one button press, no you must always shut it down from a menu. It's the same way with Pi. Totally ruining any kid friendliness forever. There is a way to rig a shutdown switch, but it literally involves a complex "relay" and programming yourself, and whenever it gets to the programming yourself stage I give up.

As a perfectionist I'm still not happy with my modded unit and never will be. And improving it always involves more $.

If I had it to do over again I'd definitely get something like this with a decent variety of games, put in some sanwa sticks maybe, and call it a day.
Corrected. Thanks. Walmarts site is off it doesn't list the other two games✌️ good catch

How to build a riser for $20. This is something I would do. The Arcade1Up riser seems to be selling for like $40-50 online. I definitely would add some riser.

That sheet of MDF is $44 currently. Even that original price did not include screws, glue, sandpaper or primer/paint.

Its really hard to beat the Arcade1Up riser in cost, especially if you value your time

I am seeing a 1/2" thickness at 4x8 for about that $44 price at my local home depot. You can build 2 risers out of one sheet in case one wants to buy another machine. Screws, wood glue, sandpaper is pretty much in everybody's garage and if you buy screws it wouldn't go to waste in the future. I build stuff so this is easy for me but it may be too difficult for others. Some people may not have a jigsaw.

I think the $45 risers being sold look like from little bit shady websites as they sell other weird stuff like only purses. The websites look very odd and too simple. It may be legit site but maybe a fake arcade1up riser. I look on ebay and the arcade1up risers are selling for over $100. I know they are sold out at walmart. None available on Amazon.

I didnt realize the A1U made risers were out of stock everywhere. Thats kind of strange. I wonder if A1U stopped making them due to the cost of materials.

If you want a stopgap, Ive found that the common 27 gallon yellow and black bins fit A1U machines perfectly. Width lines up perfect and the notches on top fit inside the frame to hold it in place. A bit of weight in the bin would help stability but I havent done that and its fine. The only drawback is that they are deeper than the A1U so it pushes them out from the wall a bit

Ive had one under my MK2 since I got it and it looks good enough I havent bothered to get a 'real' riser

Before investing in any retro arcade setup I definitely recommend playing your game of choice again. I was very disappointed at how bad the game looks now versus when I was a kid and could not play most games (short of Pac-Man) for more than a couple minutes only. The idea sounded great until it's there and now mine only collects dust and takes up space.
I think most of us gamers who would consider this are big street fighter 2 fans and probably in our 30s-50s. I love street fighter 2 champion edition/New Challengers and I had it for genesis (looks bad today) and still have street fighter 2 compilation on ps2 and even ps4 where those compilation games look very good. It is a classic that I will forever enjoy and I still think the graphics look good. It is more about the great gameplay and more user friendly control. Nowadays lot of fighting games are overly complex vs the past. Plus there is something about playing an arcade cabinet vs family/friends that makes it more fun than playing on the couch with videogame controller vs them. Plus all those other games are nice addition and will make it more playable for years. I don't remember playing 1944 as a kid but I actually like playing the 1944 games on my phone so I know I will enjoy that. Even though I was more of a streets of rage 2 fan, I do like final fight.

Someone on reddit says that they use the $14.98 Mainstays Parsons side table and it works perfectly fine to hold the weight. I believe that. If a concern, I would use that table and put one of my opened gallon paint cans sitting in garage for years in the middle and maybe a piece of wood shimmed in centered. I got milk crates in garage. I actually purchased milk crate. I didn't steal them. People over 150 pounds stand on them fine. Put it under table? That may work.

Couldn't you just use something else as the riser? I saw someone once used a trattoria metal stool and it fit perfectly underneath.
Eh, personally, I'm buying for ascetics as I suspect most others are; you can easily ROM these on just about any device these days. It is the cabinet that is selling these things and without a riser, it kills the ascetics.

Part of the issue is crt vs lcd. The arcade originals were all crt. The smooth look on crt turns into blocky images on lcd. I have both the original arcade machines and now the arcade1up Simpsons. The lcd screens are bright but just look awfully blocky. On the bright side, these small machines don't weight the 300+ lbs of the originals. My wife used to complain every time I came home with an arcade machine in the back of the minivan and called her out to help me get it out of the minivan.

If you like street fighter, it's hard to beat an original arcade machine with the cps2 multiboard that Darksoft released years back. Exactly looks and plays like you remember. The 25" crt monitors are great.

I have 4/8 way joysticks installed in my arcade machines. I usually open the coin slot door and reach inside and rotate from 4 to 8 way gate and vice versa depending on the game. With these arcade1up machines, there's no real coin door but you could get creative and install a hinge on the fake door.

Have you tried the ones that lift and twist? I've never but it sounds almost TOO convenient.

I can see how they would work but I have no experience with them. All of my arcade machines are really old but still work great. Biggest issue with the originals is that the monitors eventually go bad on many of them.

Another option for ppl who want more games with less space is a supergun hooked up to something like a game elf and 2 usb fighting style sticks which is my other setup.

I wanna try this, but it's hard to find those slimfit sammies (or really any decent <20" CRT)
