Project Farm testing of Pennzoils - Platinum didn't do so well vs. Ultra Platinum (or even Full Synthetic!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3qFfAEp9AU

The other deal with the shop towels is better because you can cancel the towels and get the money back from them. Not only that, but the towels are billed separately absurdly high. They are billing at like $14.xx or so per towel. That means you get the jug of oil for like 6.xx per jug. That's before any rebate.

Say what? There is no such thing. None of what you said make any sense and that "general rule" is not in any book. Use the oil weight recommended by your vehicle's manufacturer.

My MachE dealer wants me to charge $99 for oil change. Will this work for me?
If you change the oil yourself, sure.

Not car advice, but personally I use 5W-20 and 5W-30 interchangeably. Note that the second number is the viscosity of the oil when hot. By using 5W-20, you might have more mpg but less wear protection during the 5k miles you';; be running your car in, so I'd recommend this for the winter period.

For me, European car and California moderate temperatures...no way I'm running a 20 weight oil on an engine that typically sees 40-weight oil in Europe, 30 in the US because of our mpg standards. And yeh...I typically do 5-6k oil changes, half the time of the stupid maintenance minder recommendations.

Well, it's saying out of stock. Even without the rebate, it's a good deal.

The general rule is that if you go lower on the first number number, and higher on the second number, it's not a big deal. The reason is because the engine will never see a viscosity it hasn't experienced before.

If you car calls for 5W-20, you can safely use 0W-20, 0w-30, or 5w-30.

Why not buy both with the towels since its cheaper when you cancel the towels (unless you want the towels)?
