Back in the day, I had subscriptions to Sound & Vision, Home Theater Mag, Stereophile etc. I'm familiar w/ the methods used to analytically measure/quantify specs and throw "real world" scenarios at a receiver. Basic concepts like quality toroidal transformers, individual amp modules w/ dedicated power supplies, shielding, thicker gauge cases etc. do make a difference to an extent. It's what the Pioneer Elite, Sony ES and higher Denon/Marantz models employed, for their $1k+ models.

As w/ any subjective opinions, such as wine or other things, if it's good to you, that's all that matters. As some have noted, wattage/power is relevant as far sound pressure levels relating to the efficiency of your speakers and the size of your room. If you're in an apartment/condo, no sense in trying to create theater-level sound levels. Good enough is good enough.

My rants are simply an effort to point out to anyone interested, the value proposition of recent models and where they focus, and whether the value is there for some but not for others. If it's a fit, buy it.

This is the model that is usually on sale for $450 right?

Dang, wish we could get Best Buy to price match!

I found it for this price at Costco in Sacramento (Cal Expo). It was odd because I called to check inventory and was quoted a price of $350, but when I got to the store, it was listed at $399. I then spoke to member services asking how there could've been a price discrepancy between what they have it listed as and what I was told by phone, and they verified that their system has it listed as $350 so they adjusted it.

Prior to this, I checked the next other Costco location that had this in stock (Elk Grove) , and I was quoted a price of $499.

The Ogden Utah store had them for $349. They looked to have a whole pallet of them yesterday. I've already setup the Onkyo NR6050 and really like the sound and features of the Onkyo. I'd give the Denon a try, but I don't look forward to setting up a new AV receiver then returning one of them.

Update: We'll, I wasn't going to try the Denon, but at $200 ($250 final price) less then I paid for my Onkyo NR6050, I think I have to. They brought out more 12 at the Ogden Utah location. The stocker said that it, no more... This was at 1345.

The couple there at the same time bought three of them, so nine left.

Good luck getting one, they seem to be going pretty quickly at $250.
