Back in the day, I had subscriptions to Sound & Vision, Home Theater Mag, Stereophile etc. I'm familiar w/ the methods used to analytically measure/quantify specs and throw "real world" scenarios at a receiver. Basic concepts like quality toroidal transformers, individual amp modules w/ dedicated power supplies, shielding, thicker gauge cases etc. do make a difference to an extent. It's what the Pioneer Elite, Sony ES and higher Denon/Marantz models employed, for their $1k+ models.

As w/ any subjective opinions, such as wine or other things, if it's good to you, that's all that matters. As some have noted, wattage/power is relevant as far sound pressure levels relating to the efficiency of your speakers and the size of your room. If you're in an apartment/condo, no sense in trying to create theater-level sound levels. Good enough is good enough.

My rants are simply an effort to point out to anyone interested, the value proposition of recent models and where they focus, and whether the value is there for some but not for others. If it's a fit, buy it.

Is this good for someone just wanting a good quality hdmi switch? Is it safe to assume that the all 8K ports support 4k at 120hz?

Definitely. It's always either 8k/60 or 4k/120.

Call your local Costco for pricing and they will let you know which locations have it for the lower price. This model is being cleared out and the other stores will sooner or later have to update to the new clearance price.

I could go on and on, but don't want to bore the crowd, so this will be my last. There are details to build quality that some "claim" to hear; there are others that scientifically produce a cleaner signal at higher power levels (distortion & noise can be measured). There are things like clipping and overload/shutoff that happen when a cheaper amplifier attempts to power too many speakers simultaneously at higher levels, especially if the impedance of said speakers is on the lower end. These are real things. Perhaps not a concern for an apartment dweller, but is for a dedicated theater room able to produce sound levels of 100db+.

You ask what does "theater level" sound levels mean, I was referring to actual sound levels in db (100+). You couldn't do this in an apartment/condo, without getting a bang on the wall or ceiling. A basic "home theater in a box" would suffice for a 100sq. ft. room in an apartment. If you to get to 100+ db in a dedicated basement theater setup with larger full-range speakers, your amp has to be up to the task. I have doubts 75W will be enough.

Not to mention the reliability of higher build quality and the fact that it becomes collectible, rather than the disposable nature of the cheaper stuff. The "essence" of what makes a nicer receiver - endures over time, where as the "features" in the cheaper ones go by the wayside as newer features get rolled out.

Rant over, thanks for indulging
Yes I agree we can go on and on about all the WHAT IF'S there are and kinda my point.

As I also mentioned people have been making "claims" regarding sound quality since the dawn of time, whether it's the truth for everyone is the endless debate.

Just look in here, how often people make the "claim" how good or bad something sounds never actually listening to the product themselves.

Your definition of "theater level sound levels" is another good example.
If you don't listen at 100+db's, why worry what max a receiver can handle not to mention the other things that go into that equation, some you pointed out.

That brings up my biggest issue with movie theaters, they always have it at "movie theater sound levels"!!!

IMO loud does not equal quality!

My rant is over also, thank you the civil debate(for once).

Most of the stores in Utah are this price except a few, Murray and salt lake being two of them, they also have most.

St George is still $499, I'll keep checking it to see if it drops. They have quite a few for now.

For those wondering, I'm a Yamaha guy and went through 3 then got the Denon. Denon blows it out of the water.
Sincere question... How so? I have 2 Yamahas and am generally satisfied, so I'm wondering if (and why) it would be worth the trouble of having 2 separate apps/ecosystems when I get my next one.

Had a Harman/Kardon in the past that sounded great but was a nightmare to use. The Yamaha was such a big step up in function that I've been loyal ever since.
