Does anyone know if any of these would be good for a first grader at a beginner reading level?

I agree. Excellent game.

The optional challenge levels (called crucible; needed to unlock the 'happier' ending) were pure torture though. YouTube videos make them seem quite easy. But I struggled a lot! I managed to complete all of them though. Unlocking that ending was very satisfying. But I will always remember this game to be the one that made me realize I'm getting old! My reflexes are not what they used to be. Swore not to subject myself to anything like that again. Willfully avoiding any tough game after that experience, how much ever it might appeal to me (eg. cuphead).

Cuphead has an easier difficulty and if you play with another player it's not bad at all. You just won't get to the final boss

Don't know about any of these games but Paw Patrol On A Roll is really good. Almost no text at all and gameplay is very simple but fun too.

Moonlighter is pretty fun. Kill stuff in dungeon, sell it, repeat. A little grindy. Worth $5.

If you like rogue type games (I can never remember lite/like):

Moonlighter was very good, that is an easy pickup IMO especially for $5.
Children of Morta- a bit harder, the demo will give you quite a bit of play time and this sale convinced me to upgrade to the full game

For Dreamscaper, what was meh about it? It seems to be rated well and I was thinking of picking it up.

Lego City Undercover is good, all of my kids play it (6-13). It's a fairly easy story mode but they like to just drive around in cars, chasing/racing reach other kind of like a kids friendly Lego version of GTA
