I bought these years ago and returned them, I paid $300. The sound & build quality is very good but with that comes the added weight. Yes the plastic parts on Bose and Sony don't have a premium feel like these B&W's but they are much lighter. Also the ear ups were very stiff, I'm sure after a few dozen hours of listening they improve but I didn't get there.
Sound quality, build quality, codec options on the PX7's are better. $200 new

ANC, app customization, weight on the XM5's are better. $200ish refurbished/used

It depends on what youre looking for, there isnt a perfect set of headphones for everything.

I'm sure these are nice but these holding up long term scare me off and after reading some reviews that seems to be the downfall. Just wished there was a more robust attachment of the band to the speakers. That one little swivel plastic connection point says I'll break in time...

These bombed pretty quickly after release btw. Though those reviews were taking into account the original msrp. May be a better call at this price; though with so much competition in the price bracket idk

Yup i loved the sound on these, better than sony but they felt twice the weight of sony. Turns out i prefer comfort over sound quality and stayed many years w bose for that reason alone and don't regret it

I own both. The XM5 is hands down more comfortable, light and has better ANC but is very bright and bass heavy for me. I like that the PX7 have a more neutral sound and clear highs and mids with a good punchy base. They can also be run passively and a 3.5 mm cable is included. They do shine if you have a nice headphone amp to pair. $200 is too good a price.

What competition are you talking about? The only close ones in the price bracket are Sennheiser momentum 3 that just got marked down for prime day at $200.

The material is a polymer composite which is very durable and not straight up plastic.
