I've had Roku Ultras, Nvidia Shields, Amazon Fire TVs, and even HTPCs.

The Apple TV is simply the best device by a huge margin. No ads, the very best remote (which has an IR learning function that actually works!), incredible Siri voice integration, always the first to get major updated apps, wildly powerful and snappy, and the best Dolby Vision to SDR conversion I have seen. All of that is not even counting the iOS integration like AirPlay and the phone-remote integration, and iCloud photo access.

At $109 it is a no-brainer to me.
You guys will never get it. It's not the same. Looks like it's the same maybe on the tech specs page, but there is no spy inside an ATV. There is no Homekit support inside a Roku, FireTV, GoogleTV, etc. There is no Airplay support inside them either. Bottomline, if you are in the Apple ecosystem, ATV is the one to get. If not, sure, get one of the others or just use the one that came built-in to your TV.
I have a cx and c1 and both have Apple TVs. Lg software is redundant to an Apple TV but UI is far superior. So much easier to use and watch tv. The lg software is slow and clunky and full of advertisements and never gets updated. Apple software will get updated every year. The speed alone makes it almost an instant buy !

If you don't mind getting this as a pre-owned (acceptable) from Amazon warehouse, it is only 100 bucks for the 64 gb. I got it prior to prime day and it came without a retail box. The device and remote had no scratches.

The 32 gb sized one is $109.99 for Prime members. Also, Best Buy has the same prices for the 64 and 32 gb models as Amazon.

Save an extra $12 off with locker pickup using code PICKUP12OFF just ordered mine and code applied successfully. Been waiting for this. It seems like a new version might come out this October after all. Hopefully won't make this deal bad.

Update: 64GB Price changed to $123.49. So I had to cancel and order again and used the same code. $111.49 + tax. Use Costco Card for added warranty.

Return Policy: Returnable thru January 31, 2023 in case Apple comes out with a better and cheaper version.

I've had an Apple TV for a long time. I just set up my new LG OLED TV yesterday (replaced a really, really old plasma) and given all the smart features and streaming apps within it, I'm struggling to understand why I need an Apple TV anymore. I haven't had enough time to play with it yet but I'm pretty sure I can even cast my phone or iPad to the TV directly (without the need for an Apple TV attached). Will someone who has gone through this transition please let me know if and why you decided to get an Apple TV? I'm worried I'm not thinking of something and in true Fat Wallet fashion, I'm afraid I'll miss a "deal".

Thanks in advance for any light anyone is able to shed on this dilemma. Also, thanks to the OP and others for making this a great deal.

You don't "need" it. It has a nice UI, it's very snappy and responsive, it's seamless for Airplay integration, and if you use Apple Music then it makes it great to control it with a home audio system. I also have an LG OLED and it's fine, but I do like navigating with the Apple TV in another setup better. It's much faster controlling things from my phone if I want to do it that way.

Thank you. This is very, very helpful. I don't use Apple Music, Fitness or gaming. So, it comes down to user interface for my use case, I guess. I'll likely pass on this then. Or, I'll buy at this price and hold onto it for a few weeks until I know I can live with the LG interface for all my streaming apps and/or if Apple is announcing a new version as a poster described above. Thank you, again.

Depends how deep you are in the Apple ecosystem, and also why. All my TVs are newer "smart TVs" I basically use them as dumb monitors and use my ATV for viewing, not just for additional privacy, but also because ATV acts as a Homekit (and soon Matter) hub. I'm totally "bought in" to Homekit with lights, locks, switches, even a fan. And finally, I frequently stream videos from my Macs to my TVs via ATV.

As mentioned above, Amazon is in it's holiday return period. So doesn't hurt to buy one at this price and not open the box. Use your LG. If you are fine with that alone return the ATV. If not, rip open that box.

Apple TV is only as good as their app. For example AMAZON APP is terrible on it. Many bugs.

PICKUP12OFF doesn't work for me.

If you stream 4K files from a Plex server, an Apple TV offers you a Gb Ethernet port over the TV standard 100Mb ports.

Also, the supported codecs can be better (albeit not as good as the Nvidea Shield Pro) and the application development is better.
