As they should. I think I read somewhere these water filters have like $1 worth of materials in them. They sell at retail $40-$50. They're in the same class as inkjet cartridges.

Contact GE for a free filter bypass and just add an inline filter that will last longer, is cheaper, and not difficult to replace.
Deal of the day for Prime Members: AQUACREST 5 Years Capacity - Inline Water Filter for Refrigerator with 1/4-Inch Direct Connect Fittings, Idea for Ice Maker, Refrigerator, Under Sink Reverse Osmosis System https://a.co/6ErH7FI
They don't have the EPTWFU01 I need but I do see the price dropped a lot on the genuine Fridigaire EPTWFU01 from the last time I ordered it. From $49.95 to $37.74.

The deal on the MSWF filters for my GE fridge are fantastic! If you upgrade to the "Advanced" Basics filter, it meets NSF 53 for lead reduction. Where I live, the city is slowly going around and replacing all the water service lines made from lead pipes, but is encouraging residents to use NSF 53 filters for drinking/cooking water until the pipes are replaced. GE branded filters with NSF 53 are $39 each. I just bought 3 of the Basics filters with the same specs for $15 total!!!
I do too. Has anyone found a cheaper alternative for this filter?
I contacted GE and they sent me a free filter bypass plug. I cut the RFID tag out of the bypass plug with some power tools and taped it to the back of the fridge. Now, I order XWFE/XWF equivalent water filters from Water Drop for cheap. The NSF standards do not exactly match, though.

Any EDR1RXD1 for whirlpool? Seems like they employed NASA to make this proprietary filter
Im surprised theres no company that just sells an adapter for all these different fridge connectors and then has just 1 generic filter you can swap in and out
